Introdução: A cidade de Santarém, o polo assistencial da região oeste do Pará, carece de estudos sobre a epidemia do vírus da imunodeficiência humana (HIV), especialmente, sobre as causas de óbitos. Objetivo: Caracterizar o perfil sociodemográfico e clínico relacionado à evolução da infecção pelo HIV até a morte. Método: A amostra foi de 94 prontuários de pacientes de um centro de referência do município de Santarém-PA, que evoluíram a óbito entre os anos de 2010-2018. Foram levantados os dados sobre o perfil sociodemográfico, características imunológicas e clínicas dos pacientes. Os dados foram analisados por estatística descritiva e inferencial, adotando-se p<0,05. Resultados: A maioria dos óbitos foi de indivíduos do sexo masculino (67%), com faixa etária do diagnóstico entre 15-29 anos (39%) e de falecimento entre 30-44 anos (41%), solteiros (54%), pardos (91,5%), procedentes de Santarém (77%) e com a relação sexual sendo o principal tipo de exposição (95,7%). A maioria dos pacientes não estava em tratamento no momento do óbito (56,4%), a principal causa de morte foi por insuficiência respiratória (5%), no qual, esses indivíduos apresentavam, no momento da morte, linfócitos TCD4+ <200 cél/mm3 (26%) e carga viral detectável (29%). Conclusão: O tempo de vida do diagnóstico ao óbito foi de 48,45±50,30 meses e a presença de imunossupressão no diagnóstico associou-se positivamente com o menor tempo de sobrevida. Contudo, o sexo não apresentou associação com o perfil imunológico, a idade no momento do diagnóstico e do óbito, apenas notou-se uma tendência das mulheres para a imunossupressão e carga viral detectável.

Objective: to analyze the profile of the deaths of people with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Methods: a cross-sectional study was carried out with 106 medical records of people who died in an intensive care unit, obtaining sociodemographic and clinical variables. Analysis made using Pearson's chi-square test, Fisher's test and Mann-Whitney test. Results: most of the patients were male (80.2%), in the age group from 18 to 39 years, average age of 39.7 years, 81.6% dark-skinned, 60.4% were single and 62.5% unemployed. The proportion of patients who were unemployed (p=0.002) and who did not use antiretroviral therapy (p<0.001) were the ones that had the least regular health care. Conclusion: most of the patients in the study did not follow regular health care and did not use antiretroviral therapy. Descriptors: Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome; Death; Health Promotion. Métodos: estudo transversal, realizado com 106 prontuários de pessoas que foram a óbito em unidade de terapia intensiva, obtendo-se variáveis sociodemográficas e clínicas. Análise realizada através do teste qui-quadrado de Pearson, teste de Fisher e teste de Mann-Whitney. Resultados: maior parte dos pacientes era do sexo masculino (80,2%), na faixa etária de 18 a 39 anos, média de idade de 39,7 anos, 81,6% de cor parda, 60,4% solteiros e 62,5% desempregados. A proporção de pacientes desempregados (p=0,002) e que não faziam uso de terapia antirretroviral (p<0,001) foram os que menos realizavam acompanhamento regular de saúde. Conclusão: a maioria dos pacientes do estudo não realizava acompanhamento regular de saúde e não utilizava terapia antirretroviral.

The present study assessed clinico-epidemiological and sociodemographic characteristics and risk factors for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in patients who were co-infected with T. gondii in the border region of Brazil. HIV-positive patients who were attended by the Expert Assistance Service in Foz do Iguaçu city were assessed using a questionnaire and medical records. Of the 332 patients with HIV/autoimmune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) who were evaluated, 111 had serology for toxoplasmosis, which could be attributed to the location of the city (i.e., border region) and tourism that encourages the intense flow of people. Toxoplasmosis infection was prevalent among patients who were 18-60 years old, had education up to the 4th grade of elementary school, ate raw vegetables from home, handled soil without gloves, drank untreated water, and allowed street cats to enter their homes. These findings contribute to assessments of the toxoplasmosis profile of HIV/AIDS patients who have a high rate of toxoplasmosis. The results may contribute to improving public health, especially in border regions with characteristics that are similar to this study. Effective measures need to be implemented to control morbidity and mortality that are associated with HIV/AIDS and toxoplasmosis in the evaluated population.
