Fins Module Conception of the Microsatellite Launch Vehicle Based on Design for Manufacture and Assembly Method

Abstract: This paper presents the application of the Design for Manufacture and Assembly method (DFMA) during the conception of a space product. This approach enables to capture manufacture and assembly requirements in early phases of development. DFMA guides the manufacture processes and materials that rule the Fins Module interface to the Microsatellite Launch Vehicle (VLM-1) main structure. The results of this process are the requirements captured in the beginning of the project development, allowing avoiding problem… Show more

“…Then, an effective IHS algorithm for ASP problems is proposed, which modifies HS as follows: (1) proposing an effective encoding methods, (2) introducing OBL strategy to initialize HM, (3) using novel method to improvise new harmonies, and (4) adapting local search strategy. After that, IHS is tested with two experimental cases.…”

“…Assembly sequence planning (ASP) plays a key role in mechanical assembly, which is essential to instructing design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA) [1], improve the quality of an assembly, and to reduce assembly costs [2]. With the development of agile manufacturing and the prevalence of customization, the factories flexibility and assembly process intelligence are expected to achieve higher requirements.…”

“…The commercial software tools identified during the review concern both design tools and simulations tools (i.e., DFMA ® Boothroyd Dewhurst Software, Tecnomatix Dynamo, and Flexible Line Balancing Software). In other cases, the analysis was performed retrieving information from CAD tool, but no information was provided regarding the DFMA software used [53,54]. Moreover, it is interesting to analyse the use of tools versus the type of publication.…”
