Research on the playing patterns of Manchester City, particularly under Pep Guardiola's guidance, is limited. Existing studies do not investigate the associations between the offensive phase's initial actions (interceptions, tackles, defensive behavior followed by a pass) and other elements of the attacking phase, such as pitch space positions (zones) and goals. This study goes beyond subjective observation and applies lag-sequential analysis on Manchester City's 2019-2020 UEFA Champions League group stage matches. Behaviors were recorded using the SoccerEye Observational Instrument and software. The data was analyzed using the Sequential Data Interchange Standard-Generalized Sequential Querier (SDIS-GSEQ) and Microsoft Excel. Of the 417 offensive phase starts, 30.7% began with an interception, 8.2% with a tackle, and 29.5% with defensive behavior followed by a pass. Zone 5 (central mid-defensive sector) had a positive association (z=4.1) with interceptions, while zone 8 (central mid-offensive sector) had a positive association (z=2.67) with defensive behavior followed by a pass. Zones 3 (right defensive sector) and 12 (right offensive sector) showed a positive association with tackles (z=2.96 and z=3.36, respectively). Interceptions (z=-2.61) and defensive behavior followed by a pass (z=-4.46) were inhibited in zone 2. Starting an attack with a tackle may also result in a goal in Lags 7 and 8 (z=2.15, z=2.54, respectively).

The beach soccer is currently one of the fastest developing sports in the world. It is characterized as a modality of intermittent character of high intensity, requiring high demand of energy and of the anaerobic system with intensities above 90% of maximum heart rate. The objective of this study is: (i) to analyze and quantify in absolute and percentage terms, the incidence of goals in Beach Soccer FIFA World Cups matches, checking in which periods of games the goals happen; (ii) to identify the team that scored the first goal of the game and check the final result obtained by this team: win, draw or defeat; (iii) to relate the results to the physical performance, technical, tactical and psychological. We analyzed all the matches in 5 Beach Soccer World Cup organized by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), totaling 148 matches. The data were collected at the FIFA website database through the official summaries of the games. According to the data of the goals timing, it was found that most of the goals (37.21%) are scored in the last period of games. Regarding the influence of the first goal for the final result of the match, the team that scores the first goal of the game features average probability of winning approximately 60%. Thus, it is suggested that the higher incidence of goals in the 3rd period of the games is associated mainly to the interaction of physical and psychological factors. Regarding the influence of the first goal for the final result, it is believed that the psychological aspect appears to interfere with greater relevance.

Association of Dribbling with Linear and Non-linear Sprints in Young Soccer Players of Bangladesh

Aim: The study was designed to examine the relationships between field-based dribbling performance [measured using the Mor-Christian general soccer ability skill test] and selected field-based short sprint test performances in Bangladeshi youth soccer players. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted by 60 male soccer players aged 16 to 19 years. Repeated sprint ability (RSA) and Illinois agility test evaluated for non-linear short sprints. The linear short sprint was evaluated by a 20-metre linear sprint experiment. Data was analyzed using Pearson correlation of coefficient and multiple regression equations. Results: The moderate positive relationship was found between the Mor-Christian dribbling performance and the selected change of direction sprinting. The results also showed that the 20m linear sprint with Mor-Christian dribbling performance had a statistically non-significant positive small correlation. Moreover, the four independent variables selected in the regression equation (RSA mean time, RSA best time, Illinois agility test, and 20m sprint test) explain 31.8% of the total dribbling performance variability. Conclusion: Both linear and non-linear sprinting are relevant motor fitness capabilities linked to soccer dribbling performance. Agility-based physical capacities were found to correlate more highly with dribbling. It is suggested that a proper training schedule be established and enforced in order to improve dribbling efficiency.
