Dimensional Stability of Casts Derived from Three Types of Alginate at Different Times After Impression

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the dimensional changes in three types of alginate following three different delay times after casting. Material and Methods: In this laboratory study, a maxillary arch-shaped stainless steel model was prepared and three pins with similar and determined diameters and heights were placed (one at mid-line and two on the underside of the model) as reference points to compare the dimensional stability of the three types of alginates. A special metal tray was made from the main model. The mai… Show more

“…One important group of impression materials is elastomers, among which polyethers and silicons (condensation and addition) are more common in fixed prosthesis impression [1][2][3][4][5][6]. e ability of preparing various casts from a developed impression is clinically important [7,8]. “…The impression should also be stored carefully before casting. In many cases, the impression shape is changed due to improper maintenance or unnecessary delays between the impression and casting [1].…”

“…It must also have sufficient strength when taken out of the mouth to prevent rupture [4]. Today, there are many types of impression materials, which seem to be reasonably accurate [1]. According to numerous studies, addition silicon or polyvinyl siloxanes are one of the most accurate impression materials in the manufacture of fixed restorations.…”
