Sunflower performance as a function of phosphate fertilization in semiarid conditions

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the response of sunflower cultivars submitted to increasing levels of phosphate fertilization in two crops. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with four replicates in subdivided plots, where five doses of simple superphosphate (0, 50, 100, 150, and 200 kg ha-1 P2O5) were allocated to the plots and three sunflower cultivars (Aguará 06, Altis 99, and Embrapa 122-V2000) were assigned to the subplots. The variables evaluated were the P content … Show more

“…The sunflower cultivar Altis 99 has a median height (1.20m) when compared to other cultivars and, to obtain good productivity indices for this genotype, the average diameter of the chapter should be approximately 21cm (Soares et al, 2020), in this way, less developed chapters, will imply a lower production of achenes, compromising the efficiency of the production system.…”

“…The use of chemical fertilizers contains nutrient sources that are easily absorbed by the plant, and when their respective supply occurs properly, it affects significant increases in primary production (Soares et al, 2016(Soares et al, , 2020.…”

“…The growing demand for the oil and its derivatives has favored the expansion of sunflower crops in several regions of the world, many of which have semiarid climates (Li et al, 2017). In the Brazilian semiarid region, the expansion of this oilseed crop has seen a special focus in recent years, mainly after being inserted into the national energy matrix through the National Biodiesel Production and Use Program (Cavalcante Júnior et al, 2013;Soares et al, 2020).…”

“…Available phosphate obsession in soils is the dominant proof for its low availability (Raghothama and Karthikeyan, 2005). Soares et al, (2020) indicated that phosphorus fertilization enhanced sunflower agricultural components, P volume in leaf, achenes yield, and oil yield. Kaya et al, (2001) noted that phosphorus plays an avital role in relieving negative salinity results on the entire plant biomass for all kinds of crop plants.…”
