Although peppers have a specific niche of use, due to their use in gastronomy, studies on morphoagronomic characterization and their nutritional qualities are scarce. The objective of this work was to evaluate the main descripts and to quantify bioactive compounds of the most cultivated pepper cultivars (Capsicum spp.) and consumed in the state of Roraima, Brazil. The experimental design was in randomized blocks with three replications, and the following peppers were evaluated: ‘Malagueta’, ‘Mesa’, ‘Cheiro’, ‘Canaimé’, ‘Olho de peixe’ and ‘Muripi’. Each plot consisted of seven seedlings. The following descriptors were analyzed: canopy diameter, plant height, stem color, stem diameter, height of the 1st bifurcation, and leaf length. The following bioactive and other compounds were also evaluated: calories, capsaicin, total anthocyanins, carotenoids, titratable acidity, pH, total and soluble fibers, total and reducing sugars, humidity, ashes, lipids, carbohydrates, soluble solids, proteins, antioxidant activity by ORAC and DPPH methods, phenolic compounds and vitamin C. It was observed that the cultivars Mesa, Malagueta, Olho de Peixe and Cheiro presented the best results regarding height, stem diameter, cup diameter, favorable to field cultivation. It was also verified that the best cultivar for consumption was Malagueta, since it presented higher indices of physicalchemical analyzes, higher levels of bioactive compounds and the highest antioxidant activity.

Capsicum is represented by peppers and sweet peppers and comprises a group with remarkable genetic variability. Different cultivated Capsicum peppers of Brazil were evaluated by using CMA 3 and DAPI specific fluorochromes. There was high polymorphism of highly GC-rich CMA heterochromatic bands among the analyzed species, ranging from six (BAGC 114; C. annuum) to 26 blocks (BAGC 81; C. baccatum). Heterochromatin percentage ranged from 3.14% (BAGC 114; C. annuum) to 8.72% (BAGC 81; C. baccatum), corroborating the variation in the number of heterochromatic bands, particularly those distributed in the terminal and subterminal regions of the chromosomes. The information reported in this paper supports the cytogenetic characterization of the domesticated peppers accessions belonging to the Capsicum Germplasm Active Bank of the Federal University of Piauí (BAGC-UFPI). Moreover, the present data helped to better understand the karyotype features of peppers and provide additional information that could contribute to the improvement and maintenance of Capsicum genetic breeding programs.

RESUMOO setor agrícola sempre levanta a demanda por novas cultivares que associem resistência às pragas e doenças, qualidade e produtividade. Características no qual são indispensáveis na escolha de um genótipo para multiplicação. Nesse caso, encontramos materiais híbridos, porém sempre havendo a necessidade de novas aquisições por sementes, quando necessário multiplica-los. Tem-se a possibilidade de perpetuar essas plantas por via assexuada, e nesse caso, sem a necessidade de novas aquisições por esse insumo. Sendo assim, e conhecendo a amplitude em cultivos de pimenta no Brasil, estudos por novos métodos para multiplicação da espécie são indispensáveis. Dentro da propagação vegetativa, a estaquia é uma técnica aplicada e amplamente empregada às espécies. Diante disso, avaliou-se a aplicação de ácido indolbutírico (AIB) em estacas de Capsicum baccatum L. var. pendulum, linhagem dedo-de-moça amarela, visando induzir a formação de raízes adventícias. A implantação do experimento (junho/2015) foi em arranjo fatorial 2 x 4, onde os tratamentos foram constituídos por: tipo de estaca (com e sem folhas) e quatro concentrações de AIB (0; 1000; 2.000; 4.000 mg.L -1 ). Semanalmente foram avaliadas brotação, emissão de calos, enraizamento e perda das estacas. Nas condições estudadas, de acordo com os resultados obtidos, foi possível o enraizamento de estacas de pimenta. Com isso, espera-se definir novas condições para a multiplicação vegetativa da espécie em estudo, permitindo a produção de mudas.
