<b>Effective engineering properties in the design of storage structures of postharvest dry bean grain

Abstract: Selected engineering properties (physical and mechanical) of dry bean under non-irrigation and drip-irrigation were determined and compared. These properties are necessary for the design of equipments for harvesting, processing, transporting, estimating loads in storage structures for crops and flow problems in silos such as arching, ratholing, irregular flow and segregation. Some engineering characteristics such as: average length, width, thickness, the geometric mean diameter, sphericity, surface area, volum… Show more

“…Increase of porosity with moisture content has been reported for green gram (Vigna radiata; Nimkar and Chattopadhyay, 2001), chickpea (Cicer arietinum) seeds , Balanites aegyptiaca (Aviara et al, 2005a), watermelon varieties (Citrullus vulgaris; Razavi and Milani, 2006), Mucuna flagellipes nuts (Aviara et al, 2010), Moringa oleifera seeds and kernels (Aviara et al, 2013), dry bean grains (Kibar et al, 2014), and Brachystegia eurycoma seeds (Aviara et al, 2014a).…”

“…Furthermore, the size, shape, and moisture content of the biological material all influence the power required for size reduction (Sahin and Sumnu, 2006). Angle of repose is a feature that is used to calculate loads in storage bins, grain hopper size, and silo flow patterns (Kibar et al, 2014). Particle and bulk densities are useful characteristics for separating foreign objects from seeds (Alonge and Udofot, 2012).…”

“…According to Ding et al (2013), Poisson's ratio of grain can be determined from the value of the angle of internal friction (ϕ) using Equation ( 8). This equation is also used by other researchers (Kibar et al, 2010;Kibar et al, 2014;Logo & Vasarhelyi, 2020).…”
