Estimates of genetic parameter in maize commercial variety IPR 114 at Paraná State, Brazil

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The objective of this study was to estimate the genetic parameters of the IPR 114 maize commercial variety for breeding purpose and the efficiency of the method. It was perfomed two cycles of half-sib progenie, between 2004 and 2007. The progenies were evaluated in a randomized complete block desing with two replications per environments and the plots were composed of one 4 m length row spaced on 0.8 m, and five plants per meter. The trials were carried out in Londrina and Ponta Grossa, Paraná State,… Show more

“…So for the traits considered, both as agronomic as morphological, except for PH, it was possible to detect genetic variation potential for selection ( Table 2). The CVg for PH and EH, of 4.65% and 7.64%, respectively, although low regarding the other traits, are in agreement with the values obtained by Rovaris et al (2011), of 3.02% and 4.40%. The magnitudes of CVg found for the morphological traits RFM, RDM and SDM are similar to those reported by Mehdi and Ahsan (2000), which reinforces the potential of these traits for selection.…”

“…Epistasis as an important genetic basis of complex phenotypes has also been revealed in several recent QTL mapping studies Yu et al 1997;Ma et al 2005;Liu et al 2011;Rahman et al 2011;Borràs-Gelonch et al 2012;Krajewski et al 2012). However, marker-based analyses for estimation of QTL effects usually assume the absence of epistasis among QTLs (Lander and Botstein 1989;Jansen 1993;Zeng 1994;Bocianowski and Krajewski 2009;Rovaris et al 2011). This assumption was made largely for simplification of the statistical models.…”

“…En la formación de variedades de polinización libre se utilizan esquemas de mejoramiento intrapoblacional por medio de la selección recurrente, donde el principal objetivo es incrementar la frecuencia de alelos favorables en la población (Hallauer, 1981). El conocimiento de la magnitud de los parámetros genéticos de la población base de selección, permite diseñar la mejor estrategia a seguir en programas de mejoramiento genético (Rovaris et al, 2011).…”
