This study analyzes Portuguese seniors' Internet activity and determine their reasons, benefits, and motivations for web use as well as the obstacles faced by non-users. Results were derived from a questionnaire completed by 189 seniors enrolled in universities for seniors. 68.1 % defined themselves as Internet users. The seniors asked principally go online to check e-mail and gather information. They state that the Internet is useful, helps them to stay up-to-date, and to preserve (but not expand) relationships. Non-user status is not attributed to old age or health reasons. According to the technology acceptance model, ease of use and perception of utility were related to both Internet use and its intensity of use. Family influence also played a key role. Gender differences were not found in Internet use, intensity of use, or in use motivations.

Media Literacy Level of Teacher Candidates 1 Tugay TUTKUN 2 ÖZ: Medya araçlarının yaygınlaşması ve yoğun şekilde kullanılması neticesinde "dijital toplum" olarak adlandırılabilecek geleneksel anlayıştan farklı olan bir toplum ve toplumsal katılım türü ortaya çıkmıştır. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram vb. sosyal ağlar bu tanımlamaya örnek olarak gösterilecek medya araçlarıdır. Araştırmanın temel amacı, öğretmen adaylarının genel olarak "değişik yapıdaki medya mesajlarına ulaşma, analiz etme, değerlendirme ve kullanabilme becerisi" olarak tanımlanabilecek olan medya okuryazarlık becerilerine ne derecede sahip olduklarının belirlenmesi ve bazı değişkenler açısından irdelenmesidir. Tarama modellerinden karşılaştırma türü ilişkisel tarama kullanılarak yapılan araştırmanın örneklemini 2011-2012 eğitim-öğretim yılında Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart Üniversitesi, Eğitim Fakültesinde 1. ve 4. sınıflarda öğrenim gören 1101 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada kullanılan veri toplama aracı iki kısımdan; demografik özellikler ve Literat (2011) tarafından geliştirilen ve çalışma kapsamında araştırmacı tarafından Türkçeye uyarlanan medya okuryazarlığı ölçeğinden oluşmaktadır. Sonuçlar öğretmen adaylarının, dijital medyayı kullanım sıklıkları, sosyal paylaşım ağlarında harcadıkları zaman ve medya okuryazarlık düzeyleri bakımında bazı farklılıklara sahip olduğunu göstermektedir.

Alfabetización mediática y cultura de la participación: retos de la ciudadanía digital en la Sociedad de la Informaciónedmetic Resumen:El presente artículo pretende aportar algunos elementos de reflexión y análisis que contribuyan a clarificar los conceptos de «alfabetización mediática» y «ciudadanía digital» como demandas formativas surgida ante los nuevos lenguajes de comunicación en la red de la sociedad actual. En primer lugar, abordaremos el desafío que supone a nivel social y educativo la «revolución informacional» en la que nos encontramos y cómo Internet continúa generando cambios en los modos de comunicación social, y cuál ha de ser, a nuestro modo de ver, el papel de la educación para formar de modo crítico en el uso de los mismos. En segundo lugar, analizaremos la coexistencia lenguajes que posibilitan una mayor comunicación y, a su vez, ponen en riesgo de exclusión y desigualdad social a muchos colectivos. En el marco de la convergencia de medios y lenguajes nuevos, propondremos, en tercer lugar, un nuevo modelo de «alfabetización múltiple» que posibilite la comprensión de nuevos lenguajes y formas de comunicación multimedia. Aprender a ser competente en el contexto digital e informacional lo presentaremos, en cuarto lugar, como una demanda de la sociedad y mundo globalizado en el que vivimos. Por último y en quinto lugar, plantearemos la transformación de las democracias occidentales actuales a través de la participación de una «ciudadanía digital» transformadora.
