Strategy for Correction of Matrix Effect on the Determination of Pesticides in Water Bodies Using SPME-GC-FID

Abstract: This paper investigates a strategy as a quality control parameter, using standard surrogate and determination of a relation factor for determination of parathion-methyl, chlorpyriphos and cypermethrin pesticides in environmental aqueous matrices with distinct characteristics (river water, estuarine, seawater and weir water), using the technique of solid phase microextraction gas chromatography with flame ionization detector (SPME-GC-FID). Pesticides were very susceptible to matrix effects promoted by environme… Show more

“…Sousa et al (2012) avaliaram o efeito matriz na análise de 11 agrotóxicos e verificaram que tomate, uva e abacaxi causaram maior efeito matricial quando comparados com amostras de maçã e batata. Silva et al (2017) concluíram que os agrotóxicos são muito suscetíveis ao efeito matriz promovido por amostras ambientais (água de rio).…”

“…The possible chiral environment of the matrix (e.g., wastewater effluents contain a high variety of microorganisms, which is not expected in pharmaceuticals streams) can lead to differences in matrix effect for a pair of enantiomers. Additionally, as matrix effect results from different components which decrease or increase the analytical signal, it is expected to be more pronounced with increasing complexity of the matrix [59]. Therefore, matrix effect has to be estimated for each enantiomer in the matrices to be analyzed.…”

“…Solid phase microextraction (SPME) is an extraction technique that stands out for its practicality in terms of sample treatment, since there is no need for rigorous cleaning of the sample and avoid the use of organic solvents (Dórea, Gaujac & Navickiene, 2008;Valente & Augusto, 2000). Its application is widespread in many analyses, such as environmental, food, forensic, pharmaceutical matrices (Bojko et al, 2012;Silva et al, 2017). More recent studies using SPME fibers were capable to extract and identify many volatiles of melon (Cucumis melo L.) flowers (Silva et al, 2018) and to show Research, Society and Development, v. 9, n. 10, e5069108880, 2020 (CC BY 4.0) | ISSN 2525-3409 | DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.33448/rsd-v9i10.8880 that VOCs play a key role in the processes of attraction of pollinators (Fernandes, Silva, Aragão, Zocolo & Freitas, 2019).…”
