Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric Analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy as Supporting Tools in Quality Control of Antiparasitics

Abstract: publicado na web em 11/12/2017 This study shows that Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) can be used as supporting tools for the evaluation of the quality of antiparasitics. In addition, an analytical methodology was developed and validated to quantify simultaneously thiabendazole (TB), febantel (FB), toltrazuril (TZ), and fluazuron (FZ) in bulk and in their veterinary pharmaceutical formulations using reverse phase high pe… Show more

“…3 The chemical structures of fluazuron and clorfluazuron (internal standard) are given in Figure 1. Despite the lack of an official method for quantification of fluazuron, some authors have reported methods for quantification of the drug in different matrices: tissues, 4-6 serum, 7 tea, 8 vegetables 9 and pharmaceutical formulations, 10 involving liquid chromatography (LC) combined with ultraviolet detection (UV), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and/or tandem mass (MS/MS) detection. In these methods, the sample preparation is by solid-liquid extraction, 6,9 ultrasound assisted solid-liquid extraction, 4,8 and salting out solid-liquid extraction.…”

“…As shown in Figure 5 nTBZ absorption bands are confined from 3,100-430 cm −1 region, most of the peaks are displayed in the fingerprint region (1,500-400 cm −1 ) demonstrate the complexity of the molecule. The FTIR spectrum of nTBZ revealed the presence of the C-H stretching of the benzene and the thiazole rings between 3,100 and 3,000 cm −1 (Silva et al, 2018). The bands around 2,980 cm −1 characterize tertiary amines C-N=C of the imidazole and the thiazole rings.…”

“…The terahertz spectrum of thiabendazole, at room temperature, has also been reported and assigned [ 13 ]. Santos Silva et al [ 14 ] investigated TBZ (together with a few other compounds which exhibit anti-parasitic bioactivity) by infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetry. The authors focused on analytical issues and investigated the stability of the studied compounds under different conditions.…”
