Cancer or uncontrolled cell proliferation is a major health issue worldwide and is the second leading cause of deaths globally. The high mortality rate and toxicity associated with cancer chemotherapy or radiation therapy have encouraged the investigation of complementary and alternative treatment methods, such as plant-based drugs. Moreover, over 60% of the anti-cancer drugs are molecules derived from plants or their synthetic derivatives. Therefore, in the present review, an attempt has been made to summarize the cytotoxic plants available in the Indian subcontinent along with a description of their bio-active components. The review covers 99 plants of 57 families as well as over 110 isolated bioactive cytotoxic compounds, amongst which at least 20 are new compounds. Among the reported phytoconstituents, artemisinin, lupeol, curcumin, and quercetin are under clinical trials, while brazilin, catechin, ursolic acid, β-sitosterol, and myricetin are under pharmacokinetic development. However, for the remaining compounds, there is little or no information available. Therefore, further investigations are warranted on these subcontinent medicinal plants as an important source of novel cytotoxic agents.

Engineered cell-based therapeutics is having a great commitment in the field of treatment of human diseases. Scientific studies revealed that cell-based therapeutics play a key role in the treatment of cancers which can be an alternative for traditional immunotherapy. Even though there have been promising results, and the potential side effects resulting in mortality forced the scientists to impart regulations in the current therapies. These are evident in the growing frame of the literature of synthetic biology. Synthetic Biology empowered these new approaches to several applications in the medical field, including the development of bioengineered cell-based immunotherapies, peculiarly T-cell engineering with tumour-targeting receptors and the Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR)-T cells. The specific applications of this bioengineering of cells include direct injection of cells, merging the cells with a biomaterial scaffold in an in vitro or situ condition, or the biomaterial scaffold implantation alone which can induce surrounding cells leading to tissue restoration. Hence the aim of this review article is to highlight the various aspects of engineered cell-based therapeutics.

Obesity is a condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health. There are many reasons why a person becomes obese, and in case of homemakers, the main cause of obesity can be their sleeping habits, or the type of food they eat regularly, or lack of physical exercises. There are many risk factors of obesity which the homemakers should be aware of to reduce the chances of obesity and keep their lives healthy. The aim of the study was to create awareness on risk factors of obesity among homemakers. A questionnaire was prepared and circulated via an online platform. The data were collected, tabulated and analysed using SPSS software. Descriptive analysis and chi-square association test was performed. According to the results observed, an average of 83% of the participants is aware of the risk factors of obesity. 75.6% of the participants are aware that obesity causes heart diseases and digestive problems. The conclusion is that the majority of the homemakers are aware of the risk factors of obesity.
