Real Time PPP Applied to Airplane Fligtht Tests

Abstract: The availability in real time of GNSS satellites orbits, clock corrections and code and phase biases provided the possibility of application of Real Time Precise Point Positioning (RTPPP). This paper presents the methodology concerning RTPPP and application to kinematic trajectories of airplane flight tests, but without using the carrier phase bias. So, it is PPP float solution. It requires RT positioning estimation, task that most of time presents certain difficulties due to loss of communication or of satell… Show more

“…1 shows the network used in this study which contains 20 stations of the Brazilian Active Control Network (Fortes et al 2009). The flight test was carried out in 1-Sept-2009 equipped with a NovAtel dual-frequency GPS receiver (Monico et al, 2019). The sample rate of the flight data is 2 Hz, and the duration is approximate 3 hours.…”

“…Among others, aircraft navigation by means of PPP has been widely studied, and the number of aircraft including airplanes and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) equipped with GNSS receiver chipset is increasing. Monico et al (2019) implemented real-time PPP methodology in two airplane flight tests and found that the accuracy of 30 cm for the horizontal and 50 cm for the vertical component can be achieved in the use of GPS real-time orbit and clock products as compared to the relative positioning solutions. Teunissen et al (2011) proposed a new algorithm for GNSS attitude determination and analyzed its performance in different platforms, including ground, maritime and airplane.…”

“…For example, GPS data have been used to measure precipitable water with an RMS error of 4.6 mm compared with MODIS [9], or with no statistical difference compared with MODIS in a tropical region [10]. The advantage of using GPS signals for remote sensing is that GPS data have high temporal resolution and can be obtained in real-time [11]. Furthermore, GPS data are available under any weather conditions.…”
