Effect of Arrabidaea chica extract against chemically induced breast cancer in animal model

Abstract: Purpose:To examine the effects of Arrabidaa chica (Bignoniacea) extract, a native plant of the Amazon known as crajiru, on a 7,12-dimethyl-1,2-benzanthracene (DMBA)-induced breast cancer model in Wistar rats. Methods:We compared the response of breast cancer to the oral administration of A. chica extract (ACE) for 16 weeks, associated or not with vincristine. Groups: normal control; DMBA (50mg/kg v.o,) without treatment; DMBA+ACE (300 mg/kg); DMBA+vincristine. 500μg/kg injected i.p; DMBA+ACE+Vincristine 250μg/k… Show more

“…The results are in line with the outcomes of Rocha et al. (2019) who measured an increased level of AST after administering the chemotherapeutic drug to rats. Conclusively, the mushroom extract more effectively controlled the level of liver enzymes in rats with DMBA‐induced mammary carcinoma.…”

“…However, Rocha et al. (2019) and Arroyo‐Acevedo et al. (2020) reported more weight gain in rats upon the intake of plant polyphenols extract compared with rats receiving no intervention but DMBA.…”

“…However, a significant reduction was observed in the liver and hematologic toxicity of the ACE + 50% vincristine-treated group. Furthermore, the ACE-treated rats exhibited better albumin and transaminase levels probably because of the antioxidant components of ACE [57].…”
