Effect of adenosine concentration on quality of cooled ram semen

Abstract: This study analyzed the adenosine concentration on quality of ram semen in different refrigerated storage times at 5 °C. The design was in blocks with repeatedmeasures factorial design. Five levels of adenosine and four refrigeration times were considered as fixed effects and the animal as random effect (block). Ram semen was diluted with Andromed ® diluent (control) and increasing adenosine levels (0.5, 0.75, 1, and 1.5%). The samples were taken from refrigeration after 4, 8, 12, and 16 h and evaluated for pr… Show more

“…(Foresta et al, 1993) showing that ATP increases in human and bovine sperm, correspondingly. In a previous study, five different concentrations of ATP (0.0, 0.5, 0.75, 1, and 1.5%) were added in diluent and resulted in increased sperm motility and protected the sperm membrane integrity in ram (Bezerra et al, 2019). Similarly, Edwards et al, 2007 described that ATP enhanced the cryo-survival rate when it was used in culture media during in vitro fertilization when human sperm are treated with ATP.…”

“…The addition of substances for semen cryopreservation to maintain its viability and quality has been evidenced, bringing benefits to the freezing ( 34 , 35 ) or cooling of semen ( 36 ). And as a dietary strategy, the supplementation with palm kernel cake does not affect seminal parameters and thus could be used as an alternative ingredient in sheep diets ( 37 ).…”
