Multivariate analysis using morphometric and ultrasound information for selection of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) breeders

Abstract: This study evaluated morphometric and ultrasound information of tilapia (O. niloticus) breeders through multivariate analysis. We applied correlation, clustering, and principal component analysis to a dataset composed of information from 222 male and female breeders of the improved GIFT strain. The body weight, objective of the breeding program, showed a high positive correlation with most of the morphometric parameters. The formation of clusters indicated characteristics responsible for muscle composition and… Show more

“…The final weight (g), standard length (cm) (from the anterior end of the head to the beginning of the caudal fin insertion), and total length (cm) (from the anterior end of the head to the end of the caudal fin) [26] of the fish was measured on the day of collection (105 th day). Condition factor (CF;%) was determined according [27], with the formula CF (%) = [weight of fish (g)/ (length of fish (cm)) 3 ] × 100.…”

“…Thus, due to the smaller contribution of the other PCs, it is recommended that they be disregarded, and the interpretation of results should be based on the PC with the greatest variance. (Oliveira et al, 2019;Gurgel et al, 2021;Rodrigues et al, 2021).…”
