Antioxidant activity and lipid oxidation in milk from cows with soybean oil and propolis extract added to their feed

Abstract: The presence of PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acids) in cow milk, including conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) isomers, makes milk susceptible to lipid oxidation, and may lead to the formation of volatile products responsible for a rancid smell. Consequently, including natural antioxidants in the diet of dairy cattle can assist in preventing lipid oxidation. On this study, soybean oil (a source of PUFA) and different ethanolic extracts of Brazilian propolis were included in the cows' feed, and the antioxidant activ… Show more

“…The blood enters between the intima and media, which leads to the tear of media and the formation of double lumen aortic (Wen et al, 2017). AD can be attributed to the growing rise in obesity and food-linked diseases (Cottica et al, 2019;Maia et al, 2020). AD is common in middle-aged and elderly men, presents often with sudden severe chest pain, radiating to the back, abdomen, and sometimes even with shock (Rudnitskii & Rudnytska, 2017).…”

“…Figure 3 shows that the samples 100:0 and 0:100 showed the highest antioxidant activity (DPPH), before the storage period, followed by the corresponding mixtures 75:25 and the 50:50 and 25:75 thet not showed statistical difference (p<0.05) on the 1st day. The different behaviors of antioxidant compounds are defined according to the environment in which they are found (Cottica et al, 2018), either in pure milk or in mixtures. According to Rashidi et al (2016), antioxidants mostly work synergistically in the presence of other antioxidants.…”
