Identifying agriculture land acquisitions for alleviating future food security concerns

Abstract: The total available land for food, fuel, or forests is finite, while land demand is increasing and expected to increase further in the coming decades; resulting in deterioration of food security. Therefore, the corporate world adopted a solution of acquiring international agricultural land. Consequently, the global demand for land has progressively risen, but the question requiring decision support is-which lands to acquire for food production to ensure future food security? “…Food security is dependent on long-term, high-yield agricultural production, especially in the face of climate change. Soil management techniques that enhance soil function, soil quality, and soil health are required for the long-term sustainability of high agricultural yields (Abdullah, 2019;Chen & Yu, 2021). Adaptive management as a preventative aspect of water and soil conservation is gaining considerable international attention against the backdrop of an intensification of agriculture utilizing the same land footprint to satisfy the rapidly expanding demand for food (Łabędzki, 2016).…”

“…Food security occurs when all people have economic and physical access to adequate, secure, and healthier food that fulfills their dietary needs and food choices for an improved lifestyle, according to the widely recognized definition of food security published by the United Nations in 1996 (Abdullah, 2019;Chen & Yu, 2021). Several variables, including the world population growth, the quantity of arable land available, the availability of water resources, climate conditions, and food accessibility and loss, are putting pressure on global food security.…”

“…FAO has developed a concept for international food security, created a system of international food order. The term "food security" was first used at the international level in the 1970s in connection with the grain market crisis of 1972-73 (Abdullah, 2019;Osabohien et al, 2020). At the same time, the food problem was designated as a global problem.…”
