Protective effects of Ginger Essential Oil (GEO) against chemically-induced cutaneous inflammation

Abstract: The inhibitory effects of ginger essential oil (GED) on chemically-induced cutaneous inflammation were investigated. Three kind of experimental murine models, such as xylene-induced ear edema model, carrageenan-induced paw edema model and 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB)-induced allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) model were exploited to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of GED. Results showed that GED lowered the ear swelling rate induced by xylene and decreased paw edema rate induced by carrageenan of mice … Show more

“…Generally, EOs have high contents (20-70%) of two or three major phytoconstituents; other compounds are quantified in trace concentrations [3]. The pharmacological potential of EOs has been extensively explored: ranging from antioxidant [4,5], anti-inflammatory [6,7], immunomodulatory [8,9], antinociceptive [10,11], antiulcer [12,13], anticancer [14,15], insecticidal [16,17], larvicidal [18,19], anthelmintic [20,21], antiviral [22,23], antibacterial and antibiofilm [24][25][26][27][28] properties.…”
