The relationship between dual-task and cognitive performance among elderly participants who exercise regularly

Abstract: BACKGROUND:The dual-task performance is associated with the functionality of the elderly and it becomes more complex with age. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between the Timed Up and Go dual task (TUG-DT) and cognitive tests among elderly participants who exercise regularly. “…The time taken to complete the task has been suggested to correlate to the level of functional mobility 29 ) . For the TUG COG, participants completed the TUG while simultaneously reciting the days of the week in backwards order 30 , 31 ) . “…As expected, functional mobility was better for the Group Community. Lima et al 29 and Macedo et al 30 assessed older adults of the community with high cognitive level and obtained great performance on TUG, indicating low risk of fall. Policies that promote and encourage the community experience, in addition to the practice of physical activities, must be more present in a society going through a population aging process, since several studies indicate that remaining active favors the older adult's functional mobility and cognition.…”
