Serum amyloid A levels in acute and chronic urticaria

Abstract: Background: Serum amyloid A is an acute-phase protein. There is no available data regarding serum amyloid A levels in patients with acute (AU) and chronic urticaria (CU). oBjective: To investigate the association between serum amyloid A and urticaria. Methods: This was a case-control study of 81 patients who visited our Hospital between June and December 2016 with a diagnosis of urticaria. Eighty healthy controls (HC) who visited for routine health examination and physical checkups were recruited. Serum amyloi… Show more

“…However, the CRP level reflected CSU activity. In contrast, Lu et al 16 found no significant differences in the serum levels of hsCRP between CSU patients and healthy volunteers, as in our study. Aktaş Karabay et al 13 did not find a correlation between the N/L ratio and urticaria activity; we did not find a correlation between hsCRP levels and N/L ratio or the UAS7 score (Table 5).…”

“…Previous studies have shown that SAA is associated with various immune diseases such as ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis [133,134]. Lu et al [135] found that SAA in the plasma of AU and CU patients was significantly higher than that in healthy controls, verifying that there was an association between SAA levels and urticaria and that higher SAA levels were associated with AU and more severe CU. However, the mechanism is still un-clear, which may be caused by the liver through certain pro-inflammatory factors, such as IL-1, IL-2, and TNF-α, in response to inflammation [136].…”

“…Relevant literature shows that the synthesis of SAA is regulated by IL-6 [7]. IL-6 is a multi-effect cytokine with known multiple functions in immune regulation, inflammation, and tumorigenesis [10]. Biological medicines for inflammatory cytokine IL-6 are increasingly considered as treatment methods for chronic diseases and cancers [2].…”

“…It can be rapidly synthesized in the case of infection and tissue damage. Relevant data showed that IL-6 plays a key role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases [10].This study was carried out to detect the expression of SAA and IL-6 in the peripheral blood serum of LP patients through experiments to provide accurate basis for future clinical diagnosis and treatment of LP.…”
