“…15 These appliances are especially useful when there is bilateral loss of multiple primary teeth. There is a risk of impeded eruption or proclination of the lower labial segment associated with the use of a lower lingual arch 16 and therefore should not be used prior to eruption the permanent incisor teeth.…”

“…For instance, in cases with mixed dentition and crowded lower incisors, lingual arch to leeway space preservation should be maintained until LPm2 eruption and crowding dissipation. If rationally postponed, the appliance stays a shorter period in the oral environment, 3 reducing possible side effects, such as lower incisor proclination, 18 plaque retention, and cytotoxicity related to the silver-soldered joints. 19 In another example, a suitable waiting strategy prior to bonding full fixed appliances avoids longer treatment periods.…”

“…[ 1 ] The LA prevents the mesial migration of the mandibular first molars (M1),[ 2 ] sometimes resulting in incisor proclination. [ 3 ] Lip bumpers (LBs) are generally indicated for the treatment of mild-to-moderate tooth size-arch length discrepancy during the mixed dentition. [ 4 ] They function by increasing arch width (in premolar and molar areas) and arch depth (by the proclination of incisors and distal tipping of M1) of the lower arch.…”
