Brazilian coffee production represents an important activity in the country’s agricultural sector and, for this reason, it requires innovative technologies for the production of seedlings, which is one of the most important inputs in crop implantation. Thus, plant cloning by cutting, mineral nutrition via modified hydroponics and the use of alternative substrates appear as technological innovations for seedling production. This study evaluated the production of clonal coffee seedlings in a modified hydroponic system in comparison to the conventional climate-controlled greenhouse system, using vermiculite and phenolic foam as alternative substrates. At the end of the experiment, the seedlings were analyzed for growth (height, stem diameter, number of total leaves, leaf area, root area, shoot and root dry matter) and physiological (chlorophyll content and stomatal conductance) characteristics. For the statistical analysis, a completely randomized design was used in a factorial scheme 2 (types of substrate) x 2 (cultivation systems) with six replications and ten plants per plot. The innovative modified hydroponic system leads to a greater growth of coffee seedlings produced by cuttings in tubes with vermiculite compared to those produced in conventional systems. The substrate phenolic foam can be used alternatively in the air-conditioned greenhouse system. However, in the modified hydroponic system, it is not indicated, as it causes total seedling mortality.

A importância da avaliação do banco de plântulas é a obtenção do levantamento de informações sobre a regeneração natural dos ecossistemas. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar o banco de plântulas, identificando e analisando a participação das espécies envolvidas no processo de sucessão natural em um fragmento de mata ciliar no assentamento Sambambira, município de Santana do São Francisco, Sergipe. Foram distribuídas, em três ambientes distintos (fundo de vale, encosta e platô), 25 parcelas com dimensões de 20 m x 20 m, nas quais foram instaladas em seu interior sub-parcelas de 1 m². Todos os indivíduos encontrados nas sub-parcelas, com mínimo de 10 cm a no máximo de 100 cm de altura, foram identificados, quantificados e medidos. Foram analisados os parâmetros fitossociológicos e índices de diversidade de Shannon-Weaver (H’) e de equabilidade de Pielou (J’). Os grupos ecológicos foram identificados, bem como o efeito dos ambientes no banco de plântulas através da análise de variância. Foram amostrados 1.618 indivíduos, sendo encontradas 117 morfoespécies pertencentes a 24 famílias. A densidade média mensal foi de 16,18 plântulas m-². As espécies Ruellia sp. e Pavonia cancellata foram as mais abundantes no banco de plântulas. O fragmento apresentou elevada diversidade do estrato regenerante em processo inicial de sucessão secundária, indicando autorregenerarão da vegetação.

Due to the copious anthropization in Gallery Forests and the obligation to restore these spaces, together with the scarcity of information regarding a methodology for seedling emergence and production in a nursery, the objective of this research was to evaluate the impact of different substrates and levels of shading on seedling emergence and quality of the species Richeria grandis Vahl. The fruits, collected in 18 matrix trees in Gallery Forests, were benefited; the seeds were depulped and sown on the same day of collection. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, where three substrate compositions were used: S 1-70% of vermiculite and 30% carbonized rice husk; S 2-50% of bioplant ® , 35% of vermiculite and 15% carbonized rice husk; S 3-70% of subsoil land and 30% of tanned bovine manure. The substrates were placed in tubes with a capacity of 180 cm³ and maintained under three shading levels: 0%, 30% and 50%. The experimental design was completely randomized in a subdivided block design. All the evaluated characteristics were inferior in the 0% shading. Emergence, chlorophyll content, height and diameter of the root collar were greater under 30% and 50% shading levels, as well as in substrates S 1 and S 2. The substrate that most positively influenced R. grandis seedling quality was the S 2. Thus, R. grandis is a species that needs shade in the early stage of its development.
