Acaricidal activity of essential oils of Cinnamomum zeylanicum and Eremanthus erythropappus, major compounds and cinnamyl acetate in Rhipicephalus microplus

Abstract: This study aimed to chemically characterize the essential oils (EOs) of Cinnamomum zeylanicum (cinnamon) and Eremanthus erythropappus (candeia) and evaluate their acaricidal activity, together with that of their major compounds and cinnamyl acetate derivative, against Rhipicephalus microplus. Essential oil compounds were identified through gas chromatography. The larval packet test (LPT) at concentrations ranging from 0.31 to 10.0 mg/mL and the adult immersion test (AIT) at concentrations between 2.5 and 60.0 … Show more

“…Similarly, ⊍-bisabolol, the major constituent of Cinnamomum zeylanicum essential oil, caused 100% mortality of R. microplus larvae. 41 Furthermore, Marchesini et al 42 demonstrated the potent efficacy of ⊍-bisabolol on R. microplus ticks. A recent report also showed that ⊍-bisabolol and ⊍-bisabolol oxide A have proven to be useful as insecticidal agents against a wide range of pests.…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, there is no study evaluating CAN as an energy and fiber source in ruminant diets. However, [18] reported that CAN essential oils have been associated with acaricidal activity.…”

“…erythropappus has important economic applications due to the production of an essential oil containing α-bisabolol that is extracted for production of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals (de Oliveira et al, 2009). Essential oils of the species also showed acaricidal effect (Marchesini et al, 2021). E. erythropappus is also recommended for forest restoration, especially in degraded sites, as it is adapted to poor fertility and rocky outcrops (da Silva et al, 2007).…”
