Reinforced concrete corbels strengthened with external prestressing

Abstract: Reinforced concrete structures may demand, throughout their lifetime, the increase of the capacity load due to eventual changes in the load configuration. In this context, corbels could be considered structural elements which present great challenges for installing strengthening solutions. The referred difficulty is due to the fact that the strength capacity of this kind of element is dependent on the strength of a diagonal concrete strut and a tensile steel tie, both located in a very short region also subjec… Show more

“…Using the three types of STMs shown in Figure 1, the authors predicted 380 RC corbels' failure strengths to examine the properness of the existing and proposed strength values of concrete struts and nodal zones. The corbels were tested by Kriz [43], Al-Talqany and Alhussainy [44], and Shakir [45]. Table 1 shows the specifications and ranges of the primary design variables of the corbels.…”

“…Consoles são peças utilizadas nas estruturas pré-moldadas com a finalidade de realizar as ligações entre os elementos estruturais: viga-pilar, viga-viga e também para ligações laje-parede ou até para permitir a execução de juntas de dilatação nas estruturas das edificações (ACKER, 2002;ROMANICHENR;SOUZA, 2019).…”

“…The prestressing method that had gained popularity primarily in the strengthening of existing bridge structures [20] consists of unbonded prestressing which is defined as a system in which the post-tensioning tendons or bars are located outside the concrete cross-section and the prestressing forces are transmitted to the girder through end anchorages, deviators, or saddles. The prestressing method can effectively improve the bearing capacity of structural members by applying external prestressing [2], and can be applied to the reinforcement of structural members in large-span and heavy-duty workshops [21]. It was also proven to effectively repair reinforced concrete structural members with large deformation [14], so it has been widely used in industrial buildings.…”
