Audiometria de altas frequências em bombeiros militares com audiometria normal expostos ao ruído

Abstract: The study of high frequencies has proven its importance for detecting inner ear damage. In some cases, conventional frequencies are not sensitive enough to pick up early changes to the inner ear. Aim:To analyze the results of threshold high frequency analysis of individuals exposed to noise with normal conventional audiometry. Materials and Methods:This was a retrospective cross-sectional cohort study, in which we studied 47 firefighters of the Fire Department of Rio de Janeiro, based on Santos Dumont airport … Show more

“…The control groups had 32–142 participants. Five of the studies involving workplace noise exposure only assessed men [ 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 ], four of them included both men and women [ 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ], and one study was a review [ 31 ]. The age range was 15–61 years, and the age groups used also varied.…”

“…All studies compared CA and HFA, and five of them even included a frequency of 20 kHz. An Interacoustic audiometer was used in four studies; three of these used the AC 40 type [ 22 , 26 , 28 ], and one used the AS10HF type [ 31 ]. Two studies used a Madsen audiometer [ 23 , 30 ], a further two used the Amplaid [ 22 , 28 ], and one study used a Labat Audiopack [ 27 ].…”

“…The literature contains a number of studies on firefighters involving pathologies such as cancer, cardiovascular and respiratory disorders, lesions, osteoarthritis in the hip and knee, mental disturbances, hearing loss, noise pollution, among others [7][8][9] . However, there were no studies that considered vestibular alterations.…”

“…According to earlier studies [7][8][9]26 , firefighters are at greater risk of cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disorders, cancer and noise-induced hearing loss. Specific occupational health and safety programs for firefighters have received special attention in recent years, due to the growing recognition of the potential long-term health risk to this population.…”

“…Além disso, os bombeiros também são os responsáveis pela segurança das pistas dos aeroportos e pelo socorro marítimo, o que favorece a sua exposição ao ruído e suas consequências (3) . O ruído urbano também representa exposição ocupacional para o bombeiro porque as corporações estão localizadas em vias públicas de intenso tráfego de veículos e, durante sua jornada de trabalho, outras fontes como o ruído das sirenes dos veículos para locomoção, podem prejudicar severamente a inteligibilidade da fala (4) .…”
