-The phytosociological method helps evaluate the vegetation composition. The objective of this study was to identify and quantify the main weed species present in irrigated rice. The phytosociological survey was carried out in three mainly rice monoculture, Clearfield ® technology using properties in Itaqui-RS, between 2013 and 2014. For each property and period, a ½ ha representative area was selected and 10 random samples were collected, using a quadrat square of 1 m 2 . The sample colletion was conducted in two periods of time: during the irrigated rice crop initial growth and during the cereal's pre-harvesting phase. All collected plants were identified and counted, allowing for their frequency, relative frequency, density, relative density, abundance, relative abundance, relative importance index and similarity index to be calculated. Eleven weed species belonging to five families were identified. Poaceae and Cyperaceae occurred more frequently. During the initial growth of rice, the Poaceae family presented the largest index of relative importance, mainly to Echinochloa crus-galli, Echinochloa colona and Digitaria horizontalis. Overall, there was a reduction in plant density in the pre-harvest period. However, Echinochloa colona and Oryza sativa occurred in density levels that may interfere with the cereal yield. Aeschynomene denticulata, Cyperus iria and Oryza sativa are not controlled efficiently, indicating possible cases of herbicide resistance. Our conclusions emphasize the importance of correct weed species identification for the management of Echinochloa colona and Cyperus ferax. Integrated management practices are necessary for efficient weed control, avoiding productivity loss in the region's flooded rice fields. Keywords

Evolution of flooding tolerance in weedy rice has occurred in several rice‐growing regions, but the genes related to this process and the environmental effects are unknown. The objective of this study was to analyse the expression of genes related to flooding tolerance in response to temperature and flooding during the initial establishment of weedy rice. The experiments were carried out with rice cultivars IRGA 417 and Nipponbare, which are sensitive to flooding, and weedy rice ITJ03 and AV04 genotypes that have high and intermediate tolerance to flooding, respectively. The expression of genes related to reserve mobilisation, anaerobic respiration, escape and quiescence strategies was analysed at periods up to 24 days after sowing. The flooding tolerance of weedy rice genotype ITJ03 was associated with the expression of RAmy3D and OsTPP7 , which are involved in the mobilisation of carbohydrate reserves, ADH1 and ADH2, which participate in anaerobic respiration, and SNRKL1 that triggers rapid elongation of the coleoptile and emergence. Although the genes PDC1, SUS3 and SUB1 are important for flooding tolerance in cultivated rice, their expression was not directly related to flooding tolerance in weedy rice. A temperature of 20°C reduced levels of expression of the RAmy3D, ADH2 and SNRKL1 genes and low temperature had a negative effect on the establishment of weedy rice. Breeding of rice genotypes with tolerance of low temperatures and anaerobic conditions may be a viable strategy to improve the control of weedy rice in paddy fields.

The use of crop rotation in hydromorphic soils has been intensified in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Due to the difficult management of these soils, the use of irrigation is fundamental to increase the reliability of these production ecosystems. The present study aimed to evaluate the growth and yield components of corn under different managements of furrow irrigation. The study was conducted in Alegrete/RS in the experimental area of the Farroupilha Federal Institute during the 2017/2018 season. Two factors were evaluated: five managements of furrow irrigation, with a control (not irrigated) and 0, 25, 50 and 100% of the time required to replace the irrigation depth up to field capacity, and the influence of plant position relative to the total length of the furrow, at 0, 25 and 50 meters from its beginning. During the growth stage of corn, its LAI showed better performance for the three collections, at 34, 54 and 76 DAS, and plant height and shoot dry matter showed differences at 76 DAS in treatments that received irrigation. Yield components such as number of grains per ear, harvest index and grain yield were influenced by the use of irrigation, whereas water use efficiency did not differ between the use of irrigation and the control treatment. Lastly, best performances of application efficiency were found in treatments with 0% and 25% of the time required to replace the irrigation depth.
