Soil tillage that maintains the productivity of sugarcane plantations, providing an area for the root development and without traffic on crop rows, has given rise to new technologies in rural areas. the purpose of this study was to evaluate the soil physical properties in two sugarcane plantations, one of which was prepared with deep tilling and the other with conventional tillage. the experiment was conducted in lençóis paulista, São paulo State. Soil penetration resistance and relative density were analyzed. the cone index was lower in deep-tilled soil without traffic in all layers, than in deep-tilled soil with traffic and in conventional tillage. In both tillage treatments, the relative density values were acceptable in the 0.00-0.15 m soil layer, but considered detrimental for sugarcane development in the 0.15-0.30 and 0.30-0.45 m layers.

-The objective of this work was to evaluate the tensile strength, friability, aggregation, and the physical fractions of soil organic matter of a Rhodic Hapludox cultivated with sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum). The treatments consisted of one, three, and five years of cultivation of sugarcane, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. As a reference, a native forest adjacent to the cultivation area, with soil and relief characteristics similar to those of the cultivation areas, was used. Deformed samples were collected at 0.00-0.05, 0.05-0.10, and 0.10-0.20-m soil depths, for the determination of the soil physical attributes and for the physical fractionation of particle-size and density of the organic matter. The physical attribute evaluations were able to detect changes in the structural quality of the Oxisol, which resulted from the sugarcane cultivation. In comparison with the native forest, the stability and tensile strength of the aggregates decreased with the time of sugarcane cultivation. Tensile strength increased with soil depth, proportionally to the reduction of total soil organic carbon content. Soil preparation and straw burning reduce the input of fresh organic matter into the soil and accelerate the decomposition of the labile organic matter compartment, with negative consequences to soil physical properties over time.Index terms: Saccharum officinarum, organic carbon, organic matter fractionation, soil physical quality. Resistência tênsil, friabilidade, agregação e frações físicas da matéria orgânica de um Latossolo Vermelho cultivado com cana-de-açúcarResumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a resistência tênsil, a friabilidade, a agregação e as frações físicas da matéria orgânica de um Latossolo Vermelho cultivado com cana-de-açúcar (Saccharum officinarum). Os tratamentos consistiram de um, três e cinco anos de cultivo de cana-de-açúcar, no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Como referência, utilizou-se uma mata nativa, adjacente à área de cultivo, com características de solo e relevo similares às das áreas de cultivo. Foram coletadas amostras deformadas à profundidade de 0,00-0,05, 0,05-0,10 e 0,10-0,20 m, para determinação dos atributos físicos do solo e para o fracionamento físico densimétrico e granulométrico da matéria orgânica. As avaliações dos atributos físicos foram capazes de detectar alterações da qualidade estrutural do Latossolo resultantes do cultivo de cana-de-açúcar. Em comparação à mata nativa, a estabilidade e a resistência tênsil dos agregados diminuíram com o tempo de cultivo da cana-de-açúcar. A resistência tênsil aumentou com a profundidade no solo, proporcionalmente à redução dos teores de carbono orgânico total. Resumo -O tamanho dos agregados e o estado de agregação podem modificar a estrutura do solo, principalmente quando ocorre o manejo intensivo desse com o cultivo da cana-de-açúcar. Objetivou-se com esse estudo avaliar a influência de ciclos de cultivos de um canavial na agregação em diferentes profundidades de um Latossolo Vermelho distrófico típico, situado em Bebedouro (SP). Foram selecionados em março de 2012, três talhões de cana-de-açúcar colhida mecanicamente, sem queima, sendo: cana soca de um ciclo (C1), cana soca com sete ciclos (C7) e cana soca com oito ciclos (C8), e uma área adjacente de mata nativa (MN). O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados com parcelas subdivididas, com quatro repetições. As áreas consistiram de parcelas e subparcelas sendo formadas pelas profundidades 0-0,10; 0,10-0,20 e 0,20-0,30 m. As variáveis avaliadas: diâmetro médio geométrico (DMG), diâmetro médio ponderado (DMP), índice de sensibilidade dos agregados (IS) e teor de matéria orgânica do solo. O ciclo C8 apresentou maiores DMG e DMP, mas semelhantes teores de MO em comparação com os demais ciclos de cana-de-açúcar, demonstrando que o tratamento C8 não foi prejudicial à estrutura do solo. O diâmetro médio geométrico apresentou pior correlação com a matéria orgânica do solo na camada de 0,10-0,20 m. Palavras-chave-Estabilidade de agregados. Matéria orgânica. Saccharum officinarum.Abstract -The size of aggregates and the aggregation state can modify the soil structure, especially when there is the intensive management of that with the sugarcane cultivation. The objective was to evaluate the influence cultivation cycles of sugarcane in the aggregation in the different layers of a typical Oxisol, located in Bebedouro, São Paulo State, Brazil. Three plots have been selected on March 2012 with sugarcane cycles harvested mechanically without previous sugarcane burning: sugarcane ratoon of one cycle (C1), sugarcane ratoon of seven cycles (C7) and sugarcane ratoon of eight cycles (C8), and an adjacent area of native forest (NF). The experimental design was a randomized block with split plot with four replications. Areas consisted of plots and subplots being formed by the depths 0-0.10, 0.10-0.20 and 0.20-0.30 m. The evaluated variables: mean geometric diameter (MGD), mean weight diameter (MWD), sensitivity index of the aggregates (IS) and organic matter content of soil (OM). The C8 cycle showed the highest MWD and MGD, similar levels of OM compared to the sugarcane ratoon cycles, it indicates that this treatment was not result in adverse effect to the soil structure even that has longer sugarcane ratoon cycles. The mean geometric diameter had a worse correlation with soil organic matter in the 0.10-0.20 m layer.
