Functional capacity measurement: reference equations for the Glittre Activities of Daily Living test

Abstract: The reference equations for the time to complete the Glittre ADL-test were based on age, BMI, and height as independent variables and can be useful for predicting the performance of adult individuals. The predicted values appear to be reliable when applied to COPD patients.

“…Patients with COPD have a limitation in the activities of daily living, especially those involving the upper limbs, as they cause increased ventilatory demand and DH 3,19,20. The present study evaluated the acute effects of the Glittre-ADL test, which is one of the field tests that most closely resemble activities of daily living, and include walking and arm movements 18…”

“…The main parameter was the total time required to complete the test, calculated according to the equation described by Reis18 1.558+ (0.018×BMI)+(0.016×age years). Two tests were performed, but the second test was used for analysis, due to the learning effect reported in the literature 17…”

“…Although TGlittre is a relatively new instrument, the test has been used frequently in clinical practice, showing considerable importance [7][8][9] . As the aim of TGlittre is to measure, in a standardised way, an important outcome, the instrument has already been studied in different populations as children 10 , obese patients after bariatric intervention 11 , cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases 12,13 besides healthy subjects 14 .…”

“…The test is valid and reliable to estimate the FC of individuals with chronic respiratory disorders, in addition to being responsive to pulmonary rehabilitation and the use of bronchodilator agents 11,12 . The Glittre activities of daily living test (Glittre-ADL test), a multitasking test 13,14 , is valid for assessing the FC of individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It has adequate test-retest reliability 15 , reproducible for different populations [16][17][18] , and is responsive to pulmonary rehabilitation 15 and valid for differentiating the functional status of healthy individuals from those with COPD 19 .…”
