Capacidade submáxima de exercício em pacientes adolescentes e adultos com fibrose cística

Abstract: This study showed that most patients attending an adult CF program had reduced submaximal exercise capacity. The 6MWT can be valuable for identifying patients who might experience oxygen desaturation and physical impairment in daily activities.

“…Despite the similar characteristics of their patients to those of our study, no significant correlation was found, possibly owing to the smaller number of patients in their study than in ours. Another study also found no significant correlation between the 6-MWT and the SK score but in that study adolescents and adults with CF were evaluated,21 which might account for the lack of correlation, because age is one of the sources of the 6-MWT variations, as reported in other studies 14,22,23 . …”

“…In a previous study carried out in our center, with the objective of evaluating the exercise capacity through the 6MWT in patients attended in the program of adults with CF, 41 patients were classified into three groups according to functional severity. As a result, there was no statistically significant difference between the groups for distance traveled, but 73.2% of the patients presented 6MWD below the lower threshold from normal to predicted . Martin et al followed a cohort of adult patients with CF for 12 years, with the objective of obtaining prognostic information through the 6MWT.…”
