Background: Osteoarthritis is a common disease of joint and the knee joint is mostly affected. The prevalence in India is 22-39%. Elder age group are more affected than younger age group. It affects female more than male. Knee OA is strongly associated with occupational activities that involves kneeling and squatting. Fruits, milk, meat, poultry are some protective dietary factors against knee OA. Paucity of community based surveys in Odisha, prompted authors to do a survey to find the prevalence and risk factors of knee OA in the rural community. Materials andMethods: A cross sectional survey was conducted across five villages during September 2017 to February 2018. 299 subjects were selected by multistage sampling. A questionnaire containing sociodemographic profile, diet, ACR criteria and possible risk factors was administered to the subjects after written consent. Then data was analysed using SPSS software version 16.0 Result: Prevalence of knee OA was found to be 29.7% [95% CI: 24.4% -34.8%]. The associated risk factors are age ≥50years [p <0.001], female gender[p=<0.001], BMI more than 27.5 kg/m 2 [p=0.04], lower SES [p=0.03], activity involving kneeling or squatting [p=<0.001] etc. Regular fruit or vegetable consumption provide some protection against knee OA [OR=0.5; 0.3-0.9, p=0.02]. Farming as an occupation was found protective against knee OA [AOR=0.05; 0.009-0.301 P<0.001]. Conclusion: Every third person in this community is having knee OA. Risk factors are advancing age, female gender, and occupational activities involving kneeling and squatting, obesity. Farmers have some protection against knee OA.

Objetivo: analisar a influência que a osteoartrose tem sobre o equilíbrio e a marcha de pacientes idosos. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo do tipo observacional em idosos de ambos os sexos com osteoartrite de joelho diagnosticada. Inicialmente foi realizado uma palestra sobre os objetivos do estudo e após assinatura do Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido foi realizado a coleta de dados sociodemográfico; avaliação da dor pela Escala visual analógia; avaliação do equilíbrio pela Escala de Equilíbrio de Berg, avaliação da mobilidade e marcha através do Time Up and Go e Teste de Tinetti. Resultados: Foram selecionados para o estudo 11 idosos com osteoartrose, todos do sexo feminino, com média de idade de 75,6 anos. Houve correlação entre o aumento da idade com a piora na mobilidade e equilíbrio dos idosos. Considerações finais: Concluiu-se nesta pesquisa, que o envelhecimento é um processo fisiológico e progressivo, no qual vários sistemas do organismo são comprometidos, principalmente o sistema musculoesquelético. Os aspectos como o equilíbrio e morbidade tem uma forte relação com o avanço da idade, podendo ter comprometimento físico e psicológico.

Resumo: O excesso de peso e a obesidade é um dos mais graves problemas de saúde pública dentro do grupo das doenças crônicas não transmissíveis contribuindo para o aparecimento de algumas comorbidades como as doenças cardiovasculares. O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar a correlação da obesidade com a hipertensão arterial em adultos jovens. Trata-se de uma pesquisa do tipo de delineamento epidemiológico transversal, de cunho retrospectivo e descritivo e abordagem quantitativa. A população foi composta por 178 adultos jovens com idade entre 22 a 45 anos. Os participantes responderam um questionário sociodemográfico, a Escala de Silhuetas de Kakeshita, e por fim, foram submetidos a uma avaliação antropométrica. Houve associação significativa entre a obesidade e a hipertensão uma vez que de todos os pacientes avaliados os homens apresentaram cem por cento de hipertensão, enquanto as mulheres apresentaram um grau maior de faixa de risco de circunferência. Com isso, faz se necessárias investigações mais detalhadas através de exames físicos, laboratoriais e a medição da pressão arterial para melhores diagnósticos. To Evaluate the Correlation of Obesity with Arterial Hypertension in Sedentary Adults in the City of Vitória da ConquistaAbstract: Overweight and obesity are one of the most serious public health problems within the group of chronic noncommunicable diseases contributing to the appearance of some comorbidities such as cardiovascular diseases.The present study aimed to analyze the correlation between obesity and hypertension in young adults. It is a research of the type of cross-sectional epidemiological design, with a retrospective and descriptive character and a quantitative approach. The population was composed of 178 young adults aged 22 to 45 years. Participants answered a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Kakeshita Silhouettes Scale, and finally, underwent an anthropometric evaluation. There was a significant association between obesity and hypertension once of all the evaluated patients, men presented one hundred percent hypertension, while women had a higher degree of circumference risk range. Therefore, more detailed investigations are necessary through physical, laboratory and blood pressure measurements for better diagnosis.
