Significant research employing nanomaterials has been conducted in the field of nanotechnology over the past few years. Due to the significant advancements made in a number of industries, including electronics, energy, medical, cosmetics, food engineering, telecommunications, and agriculture, nanotechnology is advancing quickly. As a result, nanomaterials are the foundation of nanotechnology. Due to their small size, nanomaterials have special optical, magnetic, electrical, and physical, reactivity, strength, surface area, sensitivity, and stability features. Surprisingly, the phase change occurs when bulk materials are converted into nanomaterials, which means that materials that were previously non‐magnetic become magnetic at the nanoscale. Because of its unique features, nanoscale matter is a separate form of matter from the solid, liquid, gaseous, and plasma states. Nanomaterials' characteristics are mostly determined by their shapes and sizes. In this paper a critical overview of nanomaterials, their varieties, characteristics, synthesis techniques, and applications in various fields is offered.

As habitações dos assentamentos rurais, geralmente, são construídas pelos próprios moradores, em sistema de mutirão e, muitas vezes, sem acompanhamento técnico. Diante do isolamento geográfico de algumas áreas, utilizam-se materiais comercialmente disponibilizados no centro urbano mais próximo, abordando sistema de transporte e materiais industrializados, similares aos das edificações urbanas. Esse artigo aborda a temática das coberturas dessas habitações, e as possibilidades de sua produção artesanal, no próprio local, com menor custo, maior facilidade de acesso e apropriação da técnica pelo morador. O objetivo deste artigo é analisar sistemas de coberturas ecológicas, categorizando-as em termos de suas características de toxicidade, otimização de recursos naturais, reciclabilidade, energia incorporada, vida útil, impacto de transporte, geração de resíduo, reuso, manutenibilidade, pegada de água azul, número de materiais e biodegradabilidade. A metodologia consistiu de uma revisão sistemática, com buscas em plataformas de pesquisa. Os tipos de telhas selecionados foram submetidos à avaliação de suas características por meio de um painel de especialistas, via formulário eletrônico, permitindo a atribuição de escores de um a cinco a cada categoria. Como resultados, foram encontradas a cerâmica não queimada, a cascaje, as coberturas de formato abobadado, coberturas verdes, telhas de madeira, de bambu e de palha, em ordem decrescente de impacto ambiental. Os resultados demostraram que cada tipologia apresenta benefícios dependendo do local e do uso. Evidenciam-se, assim, alternativas para o sistema de cobertura das habitações rurais, que podem ser passiveis de implementação na forma de tecnologias sociais.

The use of EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) waste, from shoes industry, in the production of pre-molded block (EVA block) has been researched in the last 12 years. The results have shown great potential for these wastes to be used as lightweight aggregate, to replace natural aggregate in the manufacture of bricks made of cement based composites. This article examines the potentiality of waste EVA blocks recyclability, as aggregate in the production of new EVA blocks. In the experiment EVA blocks were molded in the mix proportion of 1:5 in volume (20% of sand and 80% of EVA) and determined the mass and compressive strength at 28 days. Then the EVA blocks were crushed and resulting aggregate was reused in part (portion retained on a 4.8 mm sieve) in the molding of new EVA blocks, using in dosages two different proportions of crushed aggregate (50% and 70%, EVAr - waste of crushed EVA blocks) in relation to the total volume of coarse aggregate of original EVA (EVA - waste from shoes industry). The average compressive strength at 28 days of the original EVA block was 1.2 MPa, whereas the block EVAr70was 2.2 MPa and the block EVAr50was 1.7 MPa. Thus, there was an 83% increase in the compressive strength on the block EVAr70and 44% on the block EVAr50. It was also noticed there was no significant difference among the weights of all the blocks produced. So, it appears that the EVAr aggregate impacted more in the compressive strength than in the mass of the blocks. Thus, the recyclability of the EVA block appears viable.
