Approximately 54% of Brazilian electricity consumption is attributed to the residential, commercial, public, and service sectors; thus, it is important to formulate strategies that promote both the energy efficiency of buildings and a better understanding of their thermal and energy performance. Within the scope of the Brazilian Labeling Program (Programa Brasileiro de Etiquetagem—PBE), technical regulations were developed to classify the level of energy efficiency of buildings. This article defines four representative buildings based on an analysis of the most common typologies that represent the multi-family residential buildings of a neighborhood. A total of 663 buildings were mapped and classified. The four representative buildings were evaluated for their thermal and energy performance in relation to Building Labeling (Quality Technical Regulation–Residential: RTQ-R). The results for the housing units (HUs) were analyzed for cooling degree-hours (cooling for summer), relative consumption for refrigeration (artificial cooling), performance of the envelope in summer, and the final classification of the HUs by the water heating system; the results for the entire multi-family building were analyzed. These results provide data that will contribute to an efficient policy for the housing industry and to future studies on the incorporation of measures that promote energy efficiency.

O investimento em eficiência energética de edifícios tem sido um assunto prioritário, incluindo nos órgãos públicos. O tema é importante pelo potencial de aliar economia de energia com redução de custos, quanto por dar exemplo de boas práticas para a sociedade. Esta pesquisa buscou identificar oportunidades de melhorias em eficiência energética em um edifício público do Tribunal de Justiça de São Paulo. Os dados do estudo de caso foram coletados em entrevistas não estruturadas e visitas técnicas, e por exame de documentação relacionada. Para avaliação da eficiência energética foi usado o método prescritivo da etiquetagem PROCEL-Edifica. A envoltória foi caracterizada com a etiqueta D, a iluminação a etiqueta C e o condicionamento de ar a etiqueta B. A classificação geral do prédio foi etiqueta C. Algumas das potenciais melhorias identificadas foram: mudança de lâmpadas fluorescentes para LED, alteração no circuito de iluminação de salas, uso de filmes polarizados nos vidros, melhoria no sombreamento vertical e horizontal das fachadas da torre pela utilização de elementos que diminuam a incidência direta da luz solar, como brises. O tempo de retorno de investimento para algumas melhorias foi calculado, indicando possíveis ações prioritárias.

Building performance simulation (BPS) is a crucial tool towards the design of projects better adapted its climatic context. In this sense, the objective of this research is to evaluate a method of thermal comfort analysis of schools in three Brazilian cities using BPS. The methodological procedures involved a literature review, in which the simulation tool and analysis method were chosen. Following simulations with the software DesignBuilder were performed using as study case a standard school typology designed by the General Coordination of Educational Infrastructure (CODIN/FNDE). This article evaluates its percentage occupied comfort hours in 3 reference cities: Cuiabá-MT, Brasília-DF, and Curitiba-PR. The results show respectively, for the cities of Curitiba, Brasília and Cuiabá, percentages of comfort hours of 76%, 70%, and 23%. The research states that the project must have different strategies for different climates. Finally, this article recommends this method should be applied to other cities and buildings.
