In vitro antifungal action of different substances over microwaved-cured acrylic resins

Abstract: Objective:The presence of Candida albicans on the surfaces of denture-base acrylic resins is strongly related to the development of oral stomatitis. This study evaluated the antifungal action of different agents over microwave-cured acrylic resin without polishing specimens previously contaminated with Candida albicans.Material and Methods:Sixty specimens were immersed in BHI broth previously inoculated with the yeast and stored for 3 h at 37°C. They were divided into 5 experimental groups (n=10): G1: 2% chlor… Show more

“…8,11 A cleaning routine may be instituted to prevent and remove accumulation of micro-organisms and to remove mucin, food remains, calculus, and stains. 12 Silver nanoparticles can kill all pathogenic microorganisms, and no report as yet has shown that any organism can readily build up resistance to them. An easy, environmentally friendly approach was used to synthesize silver nanoparticles, given that biomolecules found in plants can reduce silver ions from silver nitrate to silver nanoparticles.…”

“…As próteses removíveis podem ser higienizadas, a depender do modo de ação, de forma mecânica, cujo método mais comum é a escovação com água e sabão neutro ou dentifrícios; de forma química, onde as próteses são imersas em alguma solução química, ou ainda com associação de ambos os métodos 13 .…”

“…Bacterial and yeast plaque on dentures may lead to serious infections, such as systemic candidal infection, particularly in patients who have debilitating diseases (Montagner et al, 2009). The use of microwave energy to disinfect dentures has been suggested to overcome the problems associated with denture cleaning.…”
