Physiological parameters of cowpea treated with CaO-based particle film and subjected to water restriction

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of CaO-based particle film on the physiological parameters of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) subjected to water restriction. Plants were subjected to two levels of soil moisture and three concentrations of the film, as follows: control, without film + 100% crop evapotranspiration (ETc); without film + 50% ETc; 5% CaO + 50% ETc; 10% CaO + 50% ETc; 5% CaO + 100% ETc; and 10% CaO + 100% ETc. Plants treated with 50% ETc remained stable with the application of 10% … Show more

“…However, the use of particle films (10% CaO) reduced gene expression rates, indicating the effectiveness of the film as a photo reflector and leaf photoprotector. Sweet potato is considered moderately tolerant to stressful conditions and can maintain development even under unfavorable conditions (Zhang et al, 2019;Da Silva et al, 2019a;Oliveira Junior et al, 2019).…”

“…Abiotic stress can cause several physiological changes in plants, but particle films composed of specialized and inert minerals applied to the surface of leaves can aid in plant acclimatization by increasing reflection of excess radiation and reducing photosynthetically active radiation. Recent research has shown the potential of particle films in plant stress mitigation (Da Silva et al, 2019a;Oliveira Junior et al, 2019;Oliveira et al, 2021).…”

“…In this perspective, family farming suffers the most from these losses (Li et al, 2009;Lemos et al, 2014;Güneralp et al, 2015;Marengo et al, 2016). Thus, for the development and permanence of agribusiness, it is necessary to adopt techniques that increase the drought tolerance in crop plants (Mahajan et al 2011;Ramos et al, 2016;Oliveira Júnior et al, 2019).…”
