The possible protective effects of dipyridamole on ischemic reperfusion injury of priapism

Abstract: Purpose To investigate the protective effects against ischemia reperfusion injury of dipyridamole in a model of induced priapism in rats.Materials and Methods Twenty-four male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups, control, P/R, P/R+DMSO and P/R+D. 3ml blood specimens were collected from vena cava inferior in order to determine serum MDA, IMA, TAS, TOS and OSI values, and penile tissue was taken for histopathological examination in control group. Priapism was induced in P/R group. After 1h, priapis… Show more

“…In conclusion, we believe if the authors extended their treatment period and switched the anaesthesia, not only they would have achieved better apoptosis index, but also would have shown improvement in erectile functional index. For their discovery resembles to Karaguzel's research ( 8 ). Karaguezel applied dipyridamole in reducing acute penile ischemic and reperfusion injury in priapism.…”

“…If it continues, smooth muscle necrosis and fibroblast‐like cells begin to dominate the environment in the 48th hour. In this context, irreversible tissue damage in the corpus cavernosum is inevitable, especially with the persistence of long‐term hypoxic conditions (Karaguzel et al., 2016; Moore et al., 2017). In ischaemic priapism, penile aspiration and local sympathomimetic injection form the first stage of treatment.…”

“…Due to these reasons, an early diagnosis is crucial for patients. Another important point is to maintain the antioxidant system in these cases strong to minimise the effects of ischaemia‐reperfusion injury after treatment (Karaguzel et al., 2016).…”
