Assessment of PSA-Age volume score in predicting positive prostate biopsy findings in Turkey

Abstract: Objectives:To evaluate PSA-age volume (AV) scores in predicting positive prostate biopsy findings in Turkey.Materials and Methods:PSA-AV was calculated by multiplying the patient's age by the prostate volume and dividing it by the PSA level. Sensitivities and specificities of the PSA-AV were assessed by retrospective analysis of findings from 4,717 prostate biopsies. Results:The population's average age was 63.71±7.63 years, the mean PSA level was 9.73±17.01ng/mL, the mean prostate volume was 44.46±23.88 cm3. “…According to the data of Chinese researchers, the PSA-AV scores performed well with prostate specific antigen density (PSAD) and were better than PSA alone in predicting PCa, suggesting that PSA-AV scores could be useful for predicting PCa in Chinese population, especially among younger patients and patients with small prostates [4]. Several Turkish researchers confirmed that PSA-AV cut-off of 700 could be used for predicting positive prostate biopsy findings in patients under the age of 60, and in those with low prostate volumes [35].…”

“…Patel et al [35] proposed the PSA-AV score by combining the three clinical indexes of age, PV, and PSA for the first time. A study conducted in Turkey revealed no superiority of PSA-AV score in patients with PV values of 20-60 cm 3 [36]. However, Chinese scholars further studied the clinical significance of PSA-AV score in the Chinese population, and found that T A B L E 5.…”

“…In addition, PSA is organic but not disease specific and does not have sufficient sensitivity. Inflammation, trauma or benign proliferation may also change the serum PSA levels …”
