Chlorophyll a fluorescence as indicative of the salt stress on Brassica napus L.

Abstract: The effects of salinity stress on chlorophyll fluorescence and the growth of Brassica napus L were investigated. The chlorophyll a fluorescence transient were recorded and analyzed according to the JIP-test which can quantify PSII performance. Salt stress resulted in decreased leaf area and dry matter compared with the control treatment (0 mM NaCl). The most pronounced effects of salt stress were observed with 200 mM NaCl, and the hybrids displayed different levels of sensitivity to stress. The Performance Ind… Show more

“…The maximum quantum yield of electron transport (ΦE0) was strongly decreased under NaCl stress in rice seedlings as reported earlier in Brassica napus L. (Bacarin et al 2011) and Spirulina platensis (Zhang et al 2010). The increase in the ratio of variable fluorescence in time 0.3 ms to variable fluorescence in time 2 ms (VK/VJ) upon exposure to NaCl stress in rice seedlings indicated that oxygen-evolving complex was affected and thus the electron transport from PSII donor side to PSII reaction center was inhibited as reported earlier by Yan et al (2013) and Kalaji et al (2016).…”

“…It has been used in many studies of salt stress effects in higher plants (e.g. Kalaji et al 2011, Bacarin et al 2011, however only limited number of studies used PI abs as indicator in stress physiology of algae (e.g. Einali et Shariati 2012, Zhou et al 2013) and cyanobacteria (e.g.…”

“…These include physiological traits such as photosynthesis, which are equally important and quite specific in indicating salt tolerance. Chlorophyll fluorescence is now a very powerful noninvasive mean of obtaining quickly semiquantitative information on photosynthesis in the field and in the laboratory (Netondo et al, 2004), using intact leaves still attached to the plants (Netondo et al, 2004;Bacarin et al, 2011;Tavakkoli, et al, 2011).…”
