Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de MedicinaABSTRAcT Introduction: The aim of this study was to determinate the incidence of congenital toxoplasmosis among a group of newborns (NBs) from Belém using neonatal screening. Methods: Among the 6,000 newborns referred for investigation of genetic and metabolic diseases, 1,000 were selected for screening for congenital toxoplasmosis by determining the amount of IgM in the eluates of blood collected on filter paper. Positive tests were confirmed using paired serology of the NB and his mother. Results: Out of the 1,000 NBs assessed, one had a positive screening result that was confirmed by paired serology. conclusions: The incidence of congenital toxoplasmosis in Belém was 10/10,000 live NBs.

INTRODUÇÃO: toxoplasmose é uma doença parasitária causada pelo protozoário Toxoplasma gondii, que acomete o homem e outros animais. A forma mais grave é a toxoplasmose congênita, sendo então importante estabelecer o perfil sorológico da mulher antes da gestação. Este trabalho objetivou analisar a sorologia para toxoplasmose de alunas do curso de Enfermagem da UNOESTE (Universidade do Oeste Paulista) Presidente Prudente/SP. MÉTODOS: foram coletadas amostras de sangue de 80 alunas, com idade de 18 a 35 anos após assinatura do Termo de Consentimento. A ocorrência de anticorpos IgM e IgG anti-Toxoplasma gondii foi determinada pelo método ELISA. Este trabalho foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética da Instituição e realizado no Laboratório de Imunologia da UNOESTE. RESULTADOS: das 80 amostras de sangue analisadas, 27 alunas apresentaram IgG positiva e nenhuma apresentou anticorpo IgM. CONCLUSÕES: das 80 alunas, 53 (66,2%), são suscetíveis à toxoplasmose numa possível gestação. Sendo 27 (33,8) as alunas consideradas soropositivas.

Purpose: To evaluate the ability of real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) for detecting Toxoplasma gondii DNA in the peripheral blood and aqueous humor of patients with toxoplasmic active focal necrotizing retinochoroiditis. Methods: Fifty-five patients with infectious uveitis seen from 2009 to 2013 at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences of the Federal University of São Paulo were enrolled in this study. Forty-three patients had toxoplasmic active focal necrotizing retinochoroiditis, and the remaining 12 had non-toxoplasmic infectious uveitis and served as controls. qPCR analysis for T. gondii DNA was performed on the patients' peripheral blood and aqueous humor samples. Results:The qPCR was positive for T. gondii DNA in 37.21% (16/43) of the aqueous humor samples and 2.33% (1/43) of the peripheral blood samples; further, 16.27% (7/43) of the patients had positive results in both their blood and aqueous humor samples. Conclusion: qPCR was able to detect T. gondii DNA in patients with toxoplasmic active focal necrotizing retinochoroiditis in the blood as well as the aqueous humor and can help with the diagnosis of the disease.
