Cladocerans (Crustacea, Anomopoda and Ctenopoda) from Cerrado of Central Brazil: Inventory of phytophilous community in natural wetlands

Abstract: Abstract:The aim of this study was to inventory the cladoceran fauna in wetlands located in two large areas that protect fragments of Cerrado. Located in the Brasília National Park-DF and Campo de Instrução de Formosa-GO, these wetlands are formed by upwelling groundwater, with extensive vegetation cover. We found 24 species in the Brasília National Park and 30 in the Campo de Instrução de Formosa. The observed richness reached approximately 80% of the estimated values for both protected areas. Moreover, the c… Show more

“…In Brazil, C. laticaudatum had only been found in the Northern part of the Brazilian Amazon (Smirnov & Santos-Silva 1995), while C. candango had only been found in the Brazilian Cerrado (Sinev & ElmoorLoureiro 2010, Sousa 2013). This paper now presents the first record of C. candango in the state of Minas Gerais and, furthermore, its first record in an altitudinal temporary lake on ironstone outcrops.…”

“…So far, there is only one more record of the species, also in a shallow pond from the Cerrado wetlands (Sousa et al 2013). In our study, we describe the presence of this species in a temporary shallow lake, ''Lagoa dos Coutos'' (Lake Coutos), located in ironstone outcrops at Serra do Gandarela (southern portion of the Espinhac¸o mountain range).…”

“…The Chydoridae, Macrothricidae and the species Simocephalus latirostris Stingelin, 1906 frequently appear in association with macrophytes (e.g., Guntzel et al 2010 andSousa et al 2013) and are referred to as typically limnetic. However, in our study they were mostly found at an accessory frequency (except for Ephemeroporus hybridus and Leydigiopsis ornata).…”

“…Disparalona (M.) leptorhyncha is an endemic species, with distribution limited to South America.
