“…The presence of S. asiaticum nest near manmade structures has been reported previously for other Sceliphron species, such as S. assimile (Dahlbom, 1843), S. caementarium, S. fistularium (Dahlbom, 1843) and S. laetum (F. Smith, 1856) worldwide (Freeman and Parnell, 1973;Early and Townsend, 1992;Harris, 1992;Hunt, 1993;Buys, 2009). The nest studied here was constructed mainly of sand soil (mud) and had 12 chambers, each with a single pupa of Sceliphron asiaticum (Fig.…”

“…All individuals are cursorial spiders (Dias et al, 2010) and no orb-web spiders were found. Sceliphron prey on a variety of spider taxa, including only orb-weavers by S. laetum, S. fistularium (Harris, 1992;Elgar and Jebb, 1999;Camillo, 2002;Buys, 2009), and S. caementarium (Eberhard, 1970;Blackledge and Pickett, 2000). Thus, the finding of only cursorial spiders in the nest of S. asiaticum is an unexpected result.…”

“…Overall, few studies were carried out in the State: Moure (1943Moure ( , 1944Moure ( , 1958 provided records of some bee species from the Parque Nacional do Itatiaia, most of them Halictid bee species; and some inventories were performed focusing on the Euglossini fauna (Apidae) (Tonhasca-Jr. et al, 2002;Aguiar & Gaglianone, 2012). Concerning wasps, only the Sphecidae family has records (Buys, 2009), but the other families registered in this inventory have no data in the literature for the State of Rio de Janeiro.…”

“…Concerning the wasps species collected, only underground-nesting Penepodium species was previously recorded in the Rio de Janeiro State (Buys, 2009), and as long as some accept trap-nests (Garcia & Adis, 1993), probably it is a new record of species for the State. Pachodynerus nasidens is a vespid with a large distribution in Brazil and some records are made in the Atlantic Forest (Nascimento & Garófalo, 2014;Rocha-Filho et al, 2017).…”

“…Inventários recentes foram apresentados por Buys (2009Buys ( , 2011, porém, apenas amostrando Sphecidae e restritos a fauna do estado do Rio de Janeiro. Um checklist das espécies do Peru foi apresentado por Rasmussen & Asenjo (2009) (Morrone, 2000;Prado, 2000;Morrone et al, 2004;Colli, 2005;Zanella, 2011;Silvestre et al, 2012).…”
