Data resulting from species inventories shed light on the richness and distribution of various groups. In Minas Gerais, work on inventory and distribution of the oligochaetes of lotic environments in preserved areas are non-existent. Therefore, this study aimed to inventory the limnic oligochaetes fauna of first-order streams located in four preserved areas, to expand knowledge of the ecology and distribution of this group. In total, 19 taxa were inventoried, belonging to the families Naididae and Enchytraeidae and the superorder Megadrili (earthworms), with the genus Pristina having the largest number of species. The number of species found in this investigation corresponds to 22% of oligochaetes species recorded in Brazilian aquatic environments. The results obtained add important knowledge of the distribution of some oligochaetes species in Brazil, represent the first records of species for the four preserved areas studied and confirm the first occurrence of various species in the state. Dessa forma, este estudo objetivou inventariar a fauna de oligoquetas límnicos de córregos de primeira ordem localizados em quatro áreas preservadas, visando ampliar as informações sobre ecologia e distribuição deste grupo. Foram inventariados 19 taxa pertencentes às famílias Naididae, Enchytraeidae e à superordem Megadrili, sendo o gênero Pristina o de maior número de espécies. O número de espécies encontradas neste trabalho corresponde a 22% das espécies de oligoquetas registrados em ambientes aquáticos brasileiros. Os resultados obtidos ampliam o conhecimento sobre a distribuição de algumas espécies de oligoquetas no Brasil, representam os primeiros registros de espécies para as quatro áreas preservadas estudadas e confirmam a primeira ocorrência de várias espécies no Estado. Abstract:Oligochaeta is one of the most common and abundant taxon in continental aquatic fauna. However, knowledge of their distribution in Brazilian ecosystems is still incomplete and fragmented. Thus, the aim of this study was to develop an inventory of aquatic oligochaetes in the Extractive Reserve of Lake Cuniã in the State of Rondônia, Brazil. Collections of data were performed during the dry (August 2015) and rainy seasons (February 2016). The sediment samples were collected near the lakeside region using the kick sampling method and a kick-net sampler (mesh size of 0.25mm). This paper provides a catalog with 12 taxon from a total of 383 specimens, distributed into two families: Naididae (95.08%) and Opistocystidae (4.92%). The Pristininae subfamily was the most significant (85.68%), followed by subfamilies: Naidinae (8.36%), Tubificinae (0.52%) and Rhyacondrilinae (0.52%). In addition, some species such as Allonais inaequalis, Aulophorus furcatus, Dero nivea, Pristina synclites, Pristina menoni and Opistocysta serrata, were recorded for the first time in the Brazilian Amazon region. Therefore, the results of this study contribute to increase knowledge on the distribution of the Oligochaeta class in Brazil, particularly in the North of the country, which is so extensive and rich in water resources, but not extensively studied. Branchiura sowerbyi (Oligochaeta; Naididae; Rhyacodrilinae) is an oligochaete with great potential to be used as a testspecies in toxicology bioassays. Since 1950, its life cycle has been studied and nowadays it is well described in the literature. B. sowerbyi has a cosmopolitan distribution and can be found in places where Tubifex tubifex (normally used in toxicity bioassays) does not occur, especially in tropical regions. Due to its high individual biomass, B. sowerbyi is suitable for use in bioaccumulation bioassays. The present study reviews papers that have used this species in toxicology bioassays and were published between 1950 and the first semester of 2012. In the first part, a brief overview is provided of the biology and the life-cycle parameters of B. sowerbyi. In the second part, the bioassays are presented and discussed, and in the third and last part, conclusions about research to date and perspectives about future studies are presented. Throughout the investigation, it was possible to find a total of 30 papers that tested approximately 65 different substances (insecticides, metals, industrial chemicals and others). The majority of the bioassays run are 96-h acute water-only tests, only five were chronic bioassays and two involved bioaccumulation. The lack of research and the small number of tested substances in comparison with the standardized T. tubifex species (i.e. approximately 9 and 44 tested metals for B. sowerbyi and T. tubifex, respectively) can be explained by the absence of a bioassay protocol for B. sowerbyi, causing researchers to choose other species. It is necessary to undertake more methodological research in order to find a better and common methodology for bioassays.
