-The development (egg-adult) of Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) B-biotype (=Bemisia argentifolii, Bellows & Perring), was studied in field conditions and in incubators at constant temperatures (15, 20, 25, 30 and 35±1ºC), using soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merrill, Msoy 8001, as host plant. The temperatures threshold (Tb) and the thermal constant (K) for egg, nymph and life cycle (egg-adult) were 11.1ºC / 98.8 degree-days; 6.8ºC / 383.8 degree-days and 8.3ºC / 472.6 degree-days, respectively. At the temperatures of 15 o C and 35ºC, insect viability was smaller. In the field, 70% of the adults emerged after 413,2 degree-day were accumulated. The degree-day pattern used was adequate for the previewing Bemisia tabaci B-biotype adult occurrence in field, and it can also be used to determine the number of generations in different areas of the country.KEY WORDS: Bemisia argentifolii, whitefly, degree-day, temperature, Glycine max, soybean.RESUMO -O desenvolvimento (ovo-adulto) da mosca-branca, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) biótipo B (=Bemisia argentifolii, Bellows & Perring), foi estudado em condições de campo e em câmaras climatizadas, reguladas nas temperaturas constantes de 15, 20, 25, 30 e 35±1ºC, usando soja, Glycine max (L.) Merrill, cultivar Msoy 8001, como planta hospedeira. O limite térmico inferior de desenvolvimento (Tb) e a constante térmica (K) das fases de ovo, ninfa e ciclo biológico (ovo-adulto) foram 11,1ºC / 98,8 graus-dia, 6,8ºC / 383,8 graus-dia e 8,3ºC / 472,6 graus-dia, respectivamente. Nas temperaturas extremas (15 o C e 35ºC), a viabilidade dos insetos mostrou-se menor. No campo, a emergência de 70% dos adultos ocorreu depois de terem sido acumulados 413,2 graus-dia. O modelo de graus-dia utilizado mostrou-se adequado para a previsão de ocorrência de adultos de Bemisia tabaci biótipo B no campo, podendo também ser utilizado para determinação do número de gerações nas diferentes regiões do País.

Knowledge about interactions among biological control agents, used in sequence or simultaneously, may help to increase their efficiency, or in the case of conservation biological control, to avoid the impairment of efficiency. The aim of this study was to evaluate the interaction between two isolates of Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. (Hypocreales) (Unioeste 47 and Unioeste 57) and Trichogramma pretiosum Riley (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae), varying the timing of sprays of the fungus. Isolates were sprayed at 109 conidia ml−1 upon cards (1 × 5 cm; i.e., 2 × 105 conidia mm−2) with eggs of Anagasta kuehniella Zeller (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) and the control group was sprayed with sterile distilled water with Tween® 80 (0.01%). First, the percentage of parasitized eggs was assessed in a choice test: females of T. pretiosum were confined with two cards, one of them treated with either of the fungus isolates, the other a water‐treated control. Second, parasitism was compared on cards sprayed at various time intervals pre‐ vs. post‐parasitism: the number of parasitized eggs was assessed, as well as the parasitoid's emergence percentage, egg‐adult period, offspring sex ratio, and the longevity of parasitizing females. Trichogramma pretiosum preferred to parasitize control eggs (65 and 72%) and parasitization of the treated eggs did not differ between fungus isolates: 35% (Unioeste 47) vs. 28% (Unioeste 57). Spraying before or after parasitizing did not affect the number of parasitized eggs, nor offspring sex ratio; however, both treatments affected the percentage of emerged adults, egg‐adult period, and longevity. These findings suggested that isolates did not interfere in the longevity of parasitizing females. When the fungus was sprayed on the various development stages of the parasitoid within the host egg, or when it was offered to the parasitoid at different times after spraying, differences in adults' longevity, parasitism, emergency period from egg to adult, and sex ratio were observed. Beauveria bassiana may be used in conjunction with this parasitoid in a program of pest control.

ABSTRACT. The silverleaf whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), is a cryptic species complex that contains some of the most damaging pests in tropical and subtropical regions. Recent studies have indicated that this complex is composed of at least 24 distinct and morphologically indistinguishable species that mainly differ in their ability to transmit phytoviruses, adapt to hosts, and induce physiological changes in certain hosts. The importance of this species has been increasing worldwide, because it serves as a phytovirus vector, particularly for geminiviruses, in economically important crops. Here, we aimed to examine the population variability (2013) G.E. do Valle et al.-soybean], UBman [Ubatuba (SP, Brazil) -cassava], and PEmel [Petrolina (PE, Brazil) -melon]. Thirteen polymorphic loci with 50 alleles were observed, with an average of 2.37 (range: 2.00-2.91) alleles per population. The UBman and PEmel B. tabaci populations were the most differentiated, which was probably caused by insect adaptation to the host plant and the use of insecticides. A 33.87% interpopulation variation was observed, indicating that microsatellites may be used to measure differentiation among these B. tabaci populations. Based on the comparison of microsatellites in the current study, only the Middle East-Asia Minor 1 population of B. tabaci was found in the six populations.
