Microbial diversity in Brazilian mangrove sediments: a mini review

Abstract: The importance and protection of mangrove ecosystems has been recognized in Brazilian Federal law since 1965. Being protected in law, however, has not always guaranteed their protection in practice. Mangroves are found in coastal and estuarine locations, which are prime real estate for the growth of cities, ports and other economic activities important for Brazilian development. In this mini-review we introduce what mangroves are and why they are so important. We give a brief overview of the microbial diversit… Show more

“…However, the loss observed in electrical performances of the second and third generations of biofilms needed further explanation. Indeed, it was surprisingly conflicting with the studies on EAB generations' performance cited before which were showing performance improvement when a second generation was developed [21][22].…”

“…The high temperature, high levels of salinity, pH, and organic matter, as well as low aeration and moisture improves the substrate conditions thereby, making it conducive for the development of diverse bacteria [14]. Such environmental factors typically enhance the availability of wide genera of microbes with diverse potentials that may include polypropylene degradation.…”

“…Consiste em um ambiente único que apresenta condições de alta salinidade e temperatura, muito lodo, solo anaeróbico e rico em matéria orgânica (GHIZELINI et al, 2012;KRAUSS et al, 2014). Dessa forma, o manguezal abriga diversas plantas e microrganismos com adaptações ecofisiológicas para viver nessas condições (ALONGI, 2009, THATOI et al, 2013.…”
