Chemical and microbiological evaluation of the internal surfaces of aluminum tubes both unlined and lined with epoxi resin by means of the stereoscope and scanning electron microscope

Abstract: The internal surfaces of aluminum tubes, both unlined and lined with epoxy resin, which are used for packaged medicines such as creams, ointments, gels, etc., were evaluated chemically, and microbiologically with regard to microorganism adherence. Proof of porosity of the unlined aluminum surface and lined with epoxy resin, and the resistance to removal of the resin were observed using a scanning electron microscope and a stereoscope, with a digitalized image system. To evaluate the microorganisms adherence to… Show more

“…The study was conducted according to the reference methodology published by Bjerka et al and Pizzolito et al (15)(16) . To ensure sterility, the fragments were submitted to automated cleaning in ultrasonic washer (USC-2800, Engesolutions ® , São Paulo, Brazil) (40 kHz), rinsed in distilled water, placed on absorbent paper for drying, packed in SMS (Spunbonded/Meltblow/Spunbonded) and sterilized by pressure-saturated steam (CS, Prismatec, Itu, São Paulo) at 121°C, for 15 minutes.…”
