Study of the wettability and the corrosion protection of the hybrid silane (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) and (3-glycidyloxypropyl) trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) film on galvannealed steel

Abstract: In this work, the wettability of the galvannealed surface pretreated with the hybrid silane APTES/GPTMS film was measured by sessile drop method. The coatings were applied on the substrate from dip-coating method and dried in an oven. The study followed an experimental factorial design, 3³, with contact angle as response. The corrosion resistance was evaluated by electrochemical techniques and the surface morphology was characterized by scanning electron microscopy. The wettability results showed the best cond… Show more

“…The addition of diethoxydimethylsilane (DEDMS) to tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) before the hydrolysis increased the hydrophobicity of the obtained coatings was studied by Zhang et al [ 32 ]. Souza et al [ 33 ], for a mixture of APTES with (3-glycidoxypropyl) trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) (ratio of 2:1), obtained a coating with a water contact angle of 109.7°. Hasanzadeh et al [ 34 ] coated a polyester-viscose fabric with silica nanoparticles prepared from TEOS to obtain a rough and hydrophobic surface.…”

“…They, therefore, combine the best properties of inorganic compounds, such as thermal and chemical stability, with the properties of organic polymers, such as processability and flexibility. A good quality silane film should provide covalent bonds, form a homogeneous film without pores, be stable against the atmosphere and offer many functional groups to bind the subsequent polymeric layer (Souza et al , 2020). They can be applied on not only glass or carbon fiber surfaces but also metal or natural fiber surfaces, and it is seen that they bring about positive changes in mechanical values (Prakash and Jaisingh, 2018; Ishak et al , 2013; Omrani et al , 2016; Liu et al , 2019).…”
