Using fluid bed granulation to improve the dissolution of poorly water-soluble drugs

Abstract: In this study, fluid bed granulation was applied to improve the dissolution of nimodipine and spironolactone, two very poorly water-soluble drugs. Granules were obtained with different amounts of sodium dodecyl sulfate and croscarmellose sodium and then compressed into tablets. The dissolution behavior of the tablets was studied by comparing their dissolution profiles and dissolution efficiency with those obtained from physical mixtures of the drug and excipients subjected to similar conditions. Statistical an… Show more

“…Perhaps, this could also be explained by the dissolution efficiency of the formulated diosmin due to the granulation process of using the fluid bed. This is consistent with results of Takahashi et al [ 17 ] indicating the dissolution rate of nimodipine and spironolactone tablets improved after bed fluid granulation.…”

“…A peristaltic pump was switched off once the desired quantity of polymeric dispersion was applied, and the fluidization rate was reduced to allow particles to dry until the desired moisture level was achieved 26 . As a part of the granulation process, the bed temperature and pressure differential were also recorded 27 .…”
