Cloning and characterization of the iron uptake gene iutA from avian Escherichia coli

Abstract: The aim of this work was to isolate, clone and characterize the iron uptake gene iutA from avian pathogenic E. coli (APEC). The iutA gene was isolated from the strain APEC 9, serotype O2:H9, which was cloned in the expression vector pET101/D-TOPO. The gene of 2.2 Kb was sequenced (AY602767, which showed high similarity to the iutA gene from three plasmids, two from APEC, pAPEC-02-ColV (AY545598.4) and pTJ100 (AY553855.1), and one from a human invasive E. coli strain, the pColV K30. The recombinant protein IutA… Show more

“…In this context, Crecente et al engineered polymeric nanocapsules (NCs) to deliver the IutA antigen. IutA is an aerobactin receptor associated to UPEC iron uptake (Tokano et al, 2008), which was included in the NC to achieve an early presentation of the antigen to the organism, enhancing antibody production. In this NCs, the antigen IutA was entrapped between CS and dextran sulfate layers.…”

“…This prevalence signifies that E.coli organisms in the study context are more likely to carry virulence and integron genes to their plasmids. The existence of virulence genes of iutA, fimA, and neuC in E.coli are even cited in some studies [20,21,22], which may contribute to their rising AR. These are believed to be the important virulence factors in many infections including RTIs caused by E.coli [23].…”

“…Many Escherichia coli strains contain the astA gene, which codes for the enteroaggregative E. coli heat-stable enterotoxin (EAST1) (Maluta et al 2017). Though the aerobactin receptor (IutA protein) is an important virulence factor in extra-intestinal infections, little research has been carried out as a protective antigen (Tokano et al 2008).…”
