Nile tilapia culture in Campeche, Mexico experiences sporadic and significant fish mortalities, where mycobacteriosis signs of disease are detected. Thirty fishes(30 ± 4 g) from different farms were monitored after a disease outbreak.Nile tilapia (Oreochromisniloticus) samples (60%) of spleen, liver and stomach display multiples granulomas with a thick capsule, walled off by epithelioid cells and robust acid-fast rods on the necrotic center. A great number of acid-fast bacilli where detected with Ziehl-Neelsen stain protocol. The bacteriological analysis of kidney displayed a 90% (26 organisms) of positive development in Lowenstein-Jensen medium with yellow or orange colonies when exposed to light and acid-fast rods.A 562-bp fragment confirms the positive result of the presence of the Mycobacterium spp.by PCR analysis;where phylogenetic analysis suggests that Mycobacteriumfortuitum and M. marinum were the principal mycobacterial species associated with tilapia mortality in Campeche, Mexico.

A 8-week trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of photoperiod manipulation on the growth performance and hematological parameters of juvenile Caspian roach, Rutilus rutilus caspicus (average weight 1.46 ± 0.12 g mean±SD) reared under five photoperiods (24 h Light, 24L; 18 h Light & 6 h Dark, 18L:6D; 12 h Light & 12 h Dark, 12L:12D; 6 h Light & 18 h Dark, 6L:18D; 24 h Dark, 24D) with constant light intensity 1,500 lx on the water surface. Triplicate of 20 fish were allocated into each of 15 fiberglass tanks of 50 L capacity and they were fed three times per day with the commercial feed (SFK, Co., Sari -Iran) contains 50.0% protein and 10.5% lipid. At the end of experimental period, final body weight, weight gain and specific growth rates of fish exposed to 24L were significantly higher than those of fish exposed to 12L:12D, 6L:18D and 24D (P < 0.05). Red blood cell and hemoglobin of fish exposed to 24L were significantly higher than those of fish exposed to 24D. No significant difference observed in hematocrit, white blood cell and plasma glucose among the different treatments groups. Therefore, these results demonstrated that the growth performance of juvenile Caspian roach can be significantly stimulated by using 24L and 18L:6D photoperiods without any measurable significant stress response such as plasma glucose concentration.

In this study, the effects of Ferulago angulata extract on the growth, haematological, and immunological indices of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fingerlings were evaluated. Basal diet was supplemented with 0 (control), 0.5, 1, and 2 g·kg -1 F. angulata and was randomly allocated to experimental fish of an initial average weight of 7.45 ± 0.02 g. After 8 weeks of experiment, the fish supplemented with F. angulata extract showed increased but non-significant (P > 0.05) growth performance. No significant differences were found between trial control groups in haematological indices such as red blood cell count, haematocrit, and haemoglobin, but there was a significant increase in white blood cells, lymphocytes, neutrophils and monocytes in the F. angulata extract groups (P < 0.05). Also, there were significant differences between the fish supplemented with dietary F. angulata extract and the control group regarding immunological indices, including immunoglobulin M, lysozyme, and classical and alternative complement pathway (P < 0.05). These findings suggest that the administration of F. angulata extract has a positive effect on the immunological indices and the immune system activity in rainbow trout fingerling.
