Show more

“…The WRS (Word Recognition Score), represented by Figure 2, had a higher percentage of correct answers with the insert earphone in all three groups, probably due to less interference of external noise that this phone provides, as already observed in other studies 11,22 . In the averages of Group 3 there was a difference higher than 6%, being RESUMO Objetivo: verificar a influência do tipo de transdutor na audiometria tonal e vocal de idosos em diferentes décadas de vida.…”

“…Finally, the use of insert earphones allows greater attenuation of external noise, reflected in lower auditory thresholds [8][9][10][11][12][21][22][23][24][25][26][27] .…”

“…One of the disadvantages of supra-aural earphones is the possibility of exhaust energy at low frequencies, because of not being very well connected; Furthermore, cause more discomfort due to the headband tension on the skull (3) . When compared to supra-aural, insert earphones to produce no pressure on the ear outer and the skull are more comfortable, generate greater reliability to the examination, have higher interaural attenuation and may reduce or eliminate the need for masking contralateral (4,5) , generate greater attenuation in environmental noise, allowing the realization of audiometric tests in non-isolated environments acoustically (6) , reduce the occlusion effect of the external ear canal in testing of bone conduction and reduce the risk of collapse of the external ear canal (7)(8)(9) . There are studies in the literature showing that there is a significant difference in the results obtained in the test and retest with the supra-aural and insert earphones, showing better results in the retest (10)(11)(12)(13) .…”

“…Inserts are also reported to offer greater attenuation of ambient noise, greater interaural attenuation, reducing or even eliminating the need for contralateral masking; a reduction in the occlusion effect in testing through the bone pathway; and a significant reduction in the risk of a narrowing of the external auditory meatus. (4,5,6,7) However, a number of authors cite the disadvantages of insert earphones, such as the geometric variability of the external auditory meatus, insufficient dynamic range at high frequencies and problems related to hygiene with the use of sponge plugs. (1,8,9,10) The aim of the present study was to determine the influence of transducer type on the acquisition of hearing thresholds in individuals with severe neurosensory hearing impairment, comparing the responses between the use of TDH-39 supra-aural earphones and ER-3A insert earphones.…”
